  1. PEP Associates SpeechSystem demo (version 1.04)

  4.  !PEP-Demo is a demonstration of the software speech synthesis package from
  5. PEP Associates. Simply double-click on the !PEP-Demo icon to run it. This
  6. will result in a menu being displayed. Simply click on the appropriate menu
  7. option to read about that subject. If you have the Atomwide VIDC enhancer
  8. fitted, you may need to edit the !Run file to get it to sound right.
  9. However, this should only be necessary if you have the enhancer switched on
  10. all the time, otherwise the software should work as-is.

  12.  When the text is displayed, some "cassette tape" controls are displayed
  13. above the text. Their functions are, left to right:
  14.  
  15. * full rewind: rewinds the text and speech to the beginning
  16.  
  17. * rewind: rewinds the text and speech to the line above if there is one
  18.  
  19. * stop: stops the speech playing
  20.  
  21. * play: plays the speech from the current point
  22.  
  23. * single step: moves the text and speech forward by one word
  24.  
  25. * repeat: repeats the current word
  26.  
  27. * forward: moves the text and speech to the line below if there is one
  28.  
  29. Out of date modules
  30. -------------------
  31.  This demo uses two shareable modules - Interface Manager and ABCLibrary.
  32. Both of these modules are available from other sources in earlier versions
  33. (eg Genesis comes with an older version of ABCLib). Unfortunately, once a
  34. particular version of these modules has been loaded, it cannot safely be
  35. replaced because an active application may be using it and the machine will
  36. crash as a result.

  38.  Thus, if the demo notices that either module is already in memory but it is
  39. too old, it complains rather than attempts to replace it. If this happens,
  40. you should locate the old version of the offending module on your disc(s)
  41. and replace it with the version supplied within the demo. Existing
  42. applications will continue to work happily with these newer versions.
