This is a demonstration of Genesis, a multimedia authoring system for Acorn
computers. It uses the run-time version (called the Browser), which will
allow you to view the application and to edit parts of it, but not to save
your work.
Using the demo
==============
This demonstration will look best if run in a 256 colour mode. It uses the Homerton font throughout.
The demo can be run from the floppy disc, but will be faster installed on a
hard disc. You will need to ensure that the !System you are using contains
the ABCLib, Colours and FPEmulator modules (contained in the Modules
directory of the !System on this disc), and that you have a !Scrap directory.
Begin by double-clicking on the !GenDemo icon.
When the title screen appears, click on the open box. Click again to go on tothe next page, which gives an overview of how Genesis works.
Editing a page
==============
The third page is a template for you to experiment with.
Click Menu over any of the large frames to bring up a list of available
options.
The frame at the top of the page is for titles. The other two frames can
display text, drawfiles, sprites and bitmaps. They can also contain sound
samples, which play when you click Select over the frame.
There are three 'themes' to the words and images available - Rainforest,
Minibeasts and Civil War. In addition there is information about Genesis and Oak Solutions.
Genesis - the complete package
==============================
Because this demonstration uses the runtime version, resources cannot be
imported into Genesis and new pages cannot be created.
Genesis is available in two versions - Genesis Project and Genesis
Professional. Project is aimed at younger authors and beginners. Professionalhas extensive editing facilities (see below), and is for the more advanced
user.
Both versions of Genesis allow the author to create a series of pages (or
screens or cards or whatever you want to call them), to add frames and to
drag and drop resources into the frames.
The page can be customised by changing foreground and background colours, by changing frame borders and text sizes and styles and by importing graphics aspage backgrounds.
Pages can be linked in many ways, making it possible to create a simple
sequence or to devise an application with a complex and flexible structure.
In addition to this, Genesis Professional allows access to the powerful
Script Language which underlies both versions. Using this, it is possible to create tests, databases, timed events and many other features.
Genesis Professional costs £120 + VAT
Genesis Project costs £50 + VAT
