- Copyright Notice for the VKiller program
- ----------------------------------------
-
- The !VKiller application and its associated documentation (from hereon known
- as "VKiller") are the exclusive copyright of Richard K. Lloyd (the "author").
-
- VKiller has been released by the author into the Public Domain and is freely
- distributable, PROVIDING the following conditions are met:
-
- * Public Domain Software Libraries and another mass distribution outlets
- (such as magazine disks and bulletin boards) should make every effort to
- contact the author at the address below to confirm that they have the latest
- version of VKiller. Because this may involve a lot of work, I will ONLY
- respond to those organisations that enclose a blank formatted disk
- and an SAE (around 30p should cover it). Failure to enclose both may lead
- to a failure by the author to respond. The address to write to is:
-
- Richard K. Lloyd, If you access to JANET e-mail, then I am
- 1, Banks Road, available as rkl@uk.ac.liv.cs.and
- Lower Heswall, I can e-mail the latest VKiller in Spark 2
- Wirral, format to anyone who requests it.
- Merseyside.
- L60 9JS
-
- Individual members of the public may also take advantage of this if they
- so wish, but they MUST also include a blank formatted disk and an SAE too.
-
- * VKiller should not be modified and then distributed in this modified way.
- Any enhancements or bug fixes to it should be posted/e-mailed to the
- above address.
-
- * Viruses unknown to VKiller should be sent (on disk preferably) to the above
- address and should be clearly marked on the disk as such. If you enclose an
- SAE too, the author will return an updated version of VKiller as soon as the
- code has been added to cope with the new virus. You will also get a mention
- in the documentation of course. The author is always willing to accept
- innoculation or removal code to stop the new virus, but reserves the right
- to merge and possibly slightly modify this code with VKiller's main program.
- In fact, the best method is to modify VKiller itself and send me the updated
- version with that new code in (however, users who do this should wait for
- my next official release of VKiller and not distribute the modified version).
- Full credit will be given in the documentation as usual.
-
- [Extra note here: The author retains both the current 'release' version
- and the version prior to that. Hence, you are strongly advised not to perform
- modifications on a version of VKiller that is more than 3 months old.]
-
- * VKiller should not be sold for profit. The author strongly feels that virus
- killers should be entirely free, otherwise the end-user gets caught in a
- never-ending and possibly costly upgrade path as new viruses are discovered.
- Permission, however, IS granted by the author for Public Domain Software
- Libraries to distribute VKiller for the cost of the disk and postage and
- packing. Under no circumstances should the cost of this exceed 5 pounds
- (which is an over-generous figure in itself).
-
- * Users of VKiller should please heed the following warning:
- Like almost any computer program, VKiller may contain minor bugs which should
- not affect the general running of the program, but may crop up occasionally
- due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. running on hardware/software/OS
- versions not the same as the author's or under certain conditions not yet
- tested by the author). Users are encouraged to send any bug reports to the
- author at the address specified earlier, but the author is NOT liable for any
- problems (disk crashes, hung machines and the such like) that may arise from
- these bugs. This stems from the fact that the software is FREE and cannot be
- guaranteed to be 100% bug-free. However, the author will always fix any
- reported bugs and release a fresh version of VKiller if the bug was serious
- enough.
