- Welcome to the First Archimedes Graphics Ripper : by Richard Jelbert
-
- With this program you can load third party programs such as games and scan
- through memory searching for their graphics.Once you have found the sprite
- you want press the middle mouse button (HOLD) and select the screensave
- option. All you need to do now is to boot up Paint and load in the screen
- you have just saved ,then take what you want (its called ripping).
-
- The Ripper has two modes of operation ,
- HOLD , where all disc operations can be carried out as well as the CLI.
- To enter this mode press the middle mouse button when in SCAN mode.
- The Graphics Ripper boots up in this mode.
- SCAN , where you can scan through memory using the mouse.Remember if
- graphics look distorted then reduce the width of the screen by
- holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse left or
- right. If the graphics are not lined up with the screen which is
- likely then press 'LOCK X off' and move the picture left or right
- with the mouse. When it is lined up its best to press 'LOCK X on'.
- This mode is entered from the HOLD mode by pressing SCAN (f2).
-

- Note: the options marked with a '*' only work in HOLD mode.
-
- CF mode.
- This when switched on will fill the entire screen with colums of the same
- width that you origionally selected. 'CF on' & 'CF off' (Column Fill).
-
- Discload 1,2,3.
- This facility enables you to load 400K sections of a disc in drive 0.
- It is very useful for ripping protected programs with hidden files!.
- eg. disc 0K 800K
- ---------------- Discload1
- --------------- Discload2
- ---------------- Discload3
-
- Logical and Physical memory.
-
- The Arcs memory is divided into 2 RAM memory areas ,logical and physical.
-
- You will find previously used screen banks in the physical memory area so
- in some cases after playing a game and loadind the Ripper, screen shots may
- be found.Warning : You will get a strange feedback effect when you look at
- current screen memory but dont worry it does no harm.
- REAL WARNING! DO NOT USE THE RIPPER TO VIEW THE INPUT/OUTPUT CONTROL AREAS
- AS THIS PROGRAM WILL EFFECTIVLY WRITE TO THESE AREAS.The disc drives will
- blip and the computer will crash.Dont worry it will take some finding.
-
- When looking through logical memory most things can be found as this is the
- area of memory that applications (such as games) use directly.
- Use this area for most of your ripping.
-
- **************** HINTS ******************
- The Graphics Ripper can be used in two ways.Files can be loaded in from disc
- and then examined, this is the best way. However this will not work if the
- graphics are stored in a compressed form.
- Another way ,is to load the Ripper immediately after using the program you
- want to rip.If the memory has mot been cleared (by the use of *FX200,3)
- then all of the graphics should be intact.
- I should be writing a Module to cancel *fx200,3 calls so look out for it.
- Put it in the RipTools Directory along with Toolkits etc as these can be
- used from CLI inside the Ripper.
-
- Do not use the Ripper from the desktop as it keeps remapping the memory and
- fouling up any graphics present.
- The screensize should be at least 160K (the bigger the better) as this stops
- bad mode errors and data abort errors.
-
- *********** WHATS NEXT ***********
- Look out for my Module based rippers if I get round to it, also some riptools
- to aid graphics ripping.
- Any way ,if you use this program to form any demos ,programs etc then all I
- ask is that you include my name in the credits, thanks.
