  2.                             Use of !Patch
  3.                             =============

  5. This program applies and removes patches from applications. If you are using
  6. floppy disks, you are strongly recommended to copy !Patch and !Scrap to
  7. an empty disk, double-click on this new !Scrap, and then run !Patch from
  8. the new disk. This will significantly reduce the number of disk swaps
  9. you will have to make.
  10.  
  11. To test whether an application needs patching drop the application (or
  12. directory containing it or indeed the entire contents of $) onto the !Patch
  13. icon on the icon bar. A window will open indicating the known patches for
  14. the program, and whether they can be applied. If a patch has already been
  15. applied there will be the option to remove it. You should always take a
  16. backup of an application before patching it. Press the menu button on the
  17. mouse while the pointer is over the !Patch window to get the menu of patch
  18. options.

  20. If there is plenty of free space on the floppy disk containing the
  21. application you are going to patch (eg. at least 450K if you are patching
  22. !DTP) then running a !Scrap there will reduce the number of disk swaps
  23. even more. It is likely however that there will not be enough free disk
  24. space for you to be able to do this.

  26. If the patch files you need are supplied seperately to !Patch, double click
  27. on them or the application directory which supplies them.

  65. Note that "works on RISC OS 2" means that the patch will solve the problem
  66. on RISC OS 2 as well as on RISC OS 3. However, !Patch itself will not run on
  67. RISC OS 2, so you will need to copy the software from the RISC OS 2 machine
  68. onto a floppy disc, patch it under RISC OS 3, and then move the patched
  69. version back onto the RISC OS 2 machine.
