  10.      This program can be freely distrubuted to and used by other users of
  11. acorn computers under the following conditions:
  12. It is kept "whole" ie. files are not disributed on their own or the program
  13. copied without this help file.
  14. No alterations are made to the program or this help file.
  15. Only a small fee should be charged by P.D. libraries for handling and
  16. postage etc.
  17. The program may be recalled from the P.D. at any time.
  18. It should not be used to "pirate" software - This is a reposiblity of the
  19. user

  23.      The user should understand that they use this program at their own
  24. risk, no accepantce is made by the author for loss of data or work. The
  25. program should only be used ON BACKUPS of files, not on any original work as
  26. mistakes in its use/running could result in the loss of files. If you are
  27. unsure about what you are doing then STOP!

  29. Operation
  30. ---------
  31.      The program can be run by double clicking on it in the usual way. It is
  32. single tasking and takes over the computer. Then just follow the on screen
  33. instructions.

  35.      Split was designed to break down a large file into smaller peices on
  36. floppy disc. It was originaly written to allow a 9Mb Acorn Replay file (Star
  37. Trak -the next generation (Hello to all you Trekers!))  to be copied onto
  38. numerous floppy disc's (12 in all!) and given to fellow users to put on
  39. their machines.
  40.      This can be done using another program I wrote at the time
  41. called !Join which will reconstruct the original file from the parts on
  42. floppy disc.
  43.  
  44.      Spliter works by first asking for the amount to store on each disc (800
  45. or 1600k are the most popular sizes) it will then procide to copy chuncks of
  46. the source file (eg. the 9Mb replay file)  onto disc and requesting you to
  47. insert fresh discs when full.
  48.      After the copy is complete each disc will have a data file called
  49. Part_xxx on it where xxx is the number of that file (1-999). The program
  50. will also ask before the copying starts whether you wish to change the
  51. disc's title to Part_xxx for easy reference.

  53. Things to look out for

  56.      The program will not create a file on the floppy disc exactly the
  57. required size but within 8K.
  58.  
  59. eg. when copying to an 800K disc (800K file size entered) the resulting file
  60. will be 788K leaving 12K free on this disc.

  62.     This can be usefull though, as it allows you to leave a text file
  63. reminding you what the original flie is and the !Split & !Join programs on
  64. the first disc.

  67. The program expects that only formatted discs are used with no other file on
  68. them ie. completely empty.

  70. When asked to insert a disc do not press space with no disc in the drive.

  72. If either of these two mistakes are made the program will quit and close ALL
  73. open files , you will than have to start again.
