-
- Hide your files fom nosey eyes.
- Works best if you have your filer windows sorted
- alphabetically. Pointless if you have full info.
-
- There is a sample hidden file in this directory; try
- running !SeeMe.
-
- Hides files. To hide some files, name them in the
- name range Hidden1-10, e.g. Hidden5, and then copy
- MakeHidden into the same directory, then run it.
- They will vanish from sight and MakeHidden will
- delete that copy of itself (to avoid telltale copies
- of it revealing you have hidden files in that
- directory & forgotten to remove MakeHidden).
- Please note, if you hide a file called, e.g.,
- Hidden3, you cannot then name another file Hidden3
- and hide that also. The hider program will produce
- an error if you make it try to.
- These files have now had their icons set to mask
- all over and been renamed a string of 1-10 hard
- spaces (ascii code 160), the number of which depends
- on which number they had after the word Hidden in
- their filename. To un-hide them, just double-click
- on where they should be (beyond the end of the other
- files in the window). If you can't find them, two
- other applications are provided (!SeeMe and !HideMe)
- to reveal these files by changing their icons to
- black (but not actually un-packing them) and re-hide
- them. Guard these applications well or anyone can
- find your hidden files.
-
- It is essential to include a line to Filer_Boot
- !Invisible in your desktop !Boot file or the files
- won't be invisible after all, just of unknown type.
- If you ever use your original copy of MakeHidden
- (it is self-deleting), just run !Invisible to
- create another.
-
- If you try to hide a file called e.g. Hidden4 and
- there is one previously called Hidden4 already
- concealed in that directory, the program stop, but
- if it was also hiding files called Hidden1-3, these
- will be successful. Those of names Hidden5-10 will
- be unhidden as the program stopped before it reached
- them.
-
- That's it, really.
- R. Pfeifer.
