File Copy is used to copy files that are too big to fit onto one floppy disk. The file is split up over several floppy discs. The program will also restores these files from the floppy disks.
How to Load File Copy

Double click on the !FileCopy icon in the directory viewer to run the programme.
If you get the error message "File Copy Already Running" then you are trying to run the programme twice
If the programme loads successfully the copy right message will appear and the File Copy icon will appear on the icon bar.
Backing up a large file to floppy disk

Drag the file that you want a backup of but is too large to fit onto on floppy disk onto the file copy icon on the icon bar.
You will then be asked to insert a disk 1. Insert a disk and click on continue. It is best if the disk is blank. The file is stored on the disk until there is no more free space. If the disk was not blank it would have used what ever free space there was.
When the disk is full you will be asked to insert the next disk. Put another disk into the drive and click on continue. This process will be repeated until the whole file has been backed up to floppy disk.
Restoring files from floppy disks

To restore a file from floppy disks that has been backed up click the left mouse button on the File Copy icon on the icon bar.
You will be asked to insert the last disk of the set of backup disks containing you file. This contains information the filecopy needs. Insert the last disk and click on continue.
This will bring up a save window. Drag the icon of the file to the directory viewer where you want the file to be restored to. For example the hard disk.
You will then be asked to insert disk one of the set of backup disks containing you file. Insert disk one and click on continue.
The restore process will then start. After a while the program will ask for the next disk. Insert this and click on counting. Repeat this process until all the disk have been restored.
Speeding things up & other options

There is an option called faster that can be activated and deactivate when a file is being restored or backed up. To use this click the middle button in the window that tells you it is restoring or backing up a file. This brings up a menu. At any time the faster option can be turned off. This speeds things up but information such as which disk is being processed and how many bytes are left. Once faster as been turned on it can only be turned off when you are asked to change a disk.
Click on abort will abort the process but it can only be done when faster is off or when you are prompted for a disk.
The computer beeps when it prompts for a disk. This can be turned on or off by the icon bar menu by click on sound.

It is possible to backup directories and applications if you use a program such as ArcFS to compress all the files into one file. This file can then be backed up in the normal way.
If your computer has enough memory there is a quicker way of restoring files. Insert the first backup disk. Drag the file backup to the place you want it restoring to. Load the copy of the file you just created into edit. Move the cursor to the end of the file. Insert the next disk. Drag the back file to the edit window. Move cursor to the end of the file and repeat the process until all the disk have been processed. Save the file in edit. Load the control file and the last backup disk into edit. Set the set type and name of the file to the ones shown in the control file.
