  10. Since ModemUtil is based mainly around its iconbar menu, I have simply
  11. included details of the usage of each menu item:
  12.  
  13. Info ->
  14.  Leads to the info window!
  15.  
  16. Options ->
  17.  Use CD wire: If you have the CD wire connected in your serial lead, then
  18.   use this option, as it will give a realtime display of the state of
  19.   communications and will automatically detect when you go on line and
  20.   off line. If it is not ticked, then to tell ModemUtil that you have gone
  21.   on line, just click once on the icon on the iconbar, and once more to
  22.   signal that you are off line again.
  23.  Log usage: Ticking this item will make a log of every time you go on line,
  24.   together with the cost of the call (not inclusive of VAT) and the call
  25.   band selected when the log is made. To re-direct the position of the log
  26.   file you should change the system variable 'ModemLog$Dir' to a suitable
  27.   directory in the !Run file. By default this is Output, contained within
  28.   the application.
  29.  Bleeper: This toggles whether or not the application will make any sound.
  30.  Colours: When this is selected, the current online time will be displayed
  31.   in a colour corresponding to the call rate. Green means the cheap rate,
  32.   orange the standard rate and red the peak rate.

  34. Serial port ->
  35.  Disabled: This disables the serial port, which would force the modem to
  36.   drop the carrier if you were online.
  37.  Enabled: This re-enables the serial port.
  38.  Show state: Opens a window showing the important serial flags. If the icon
  39.   is highlighted in green then that flag is on, yellow and it is off.

  41. Show status:
  42.  This opens a window where you can change the distance of the call, and view
  43.  the current cost and on line time (if you are on line!!). You are free to
  44.  change the distance of the call at any time, even while on line, but after
  45.  a rate change (indicated by a bleep, if 'Bleeper' is enabled) doing so
  46.  might make the cost inaccurate.

  48. Scan log:
  49.  This opens a window which after scanning through the log file displays the
  50.  total amount of time logged online and the cost. VAT is added at the level
  51.  indicated by the 'Charges' file. You can pause the scanning or abort it at
  52.  any time.

  54. Timer:
  55.  This opens the timer window, which depending on the setting will work as a
  56.  countdown timer, or a stopwatch. To toggle between these just click menu in
  57.  the window and choose the type.
  58.  
  59. Save options:
  60.  The saves the current timer type, and the options selected from the Options
  61.  submenu, so that the next time the program is loaded you will have the same
  62.  options set up.

  65.  Should be obvious enough!

  67. The layout of the Charges file (Resources.Charges) is fully documented
  68. inside that file.

  81.   1) No more than £2.00 is charged for a disc containing it, unless
  82.      permission is obtained from me.
  83.   2) Any modifications are sent to me so I can keep track of the current
  84.      version number.
  85.   3) All the files are included, unchanged, except 'LogFile' which may be
  86.      deleted if you wish and 'Charges' which may be updated, as long as it
  87.      still contains the comments.
  88.   4) You do not claim to have written ModemUtil yourself.
  89.   5) You don't phone me for anything (write to me, contact DoggySoft, or
  90.      send a message via Arcade), as the person answering would most likely
  91.      not be me, and think you mad.
