  1. Å    105Mb removable drive for A5000 Ö Just after last monthæs magazine
  2. went to the printers, we discovered that there is an IDE version of the
  3. 105Mb SyQuest removable drives. This means that you donæt need a SCSI
  4. podule Ö it can use the built-in IDE interface. Not only that, but the
  5. drives themselves are cheaper than the SCSI equivalent Ö ú455 instead of
  6. ú490. Also, they will fit inside the A5000 and are user-fittable Ö no
  7. soldering needed, just a screwdriver and enough technical common sense
  8. to follow the fitting instructions.

  10. These drives are not quite as fast as the SCSI version but they are up
  11. to 20% faster than the A5000æs own 80Mb drive and up to 40% faster than
  12. the 40Mb version.

  14. To show just how much cheaper these drives are than existing SyQuests, I
  15. have worked out the costings of a drive plus 200Mb of data storage and a
  16. drive plus 400Mb of storage. These are Archive VAT-inclusive prices.

  27. SCSI podule. If not, you have to add ú160 to the costing for the 42Mb

  31. Å    Acorn Pocket Book pricing Ö The lower price of the Acorn Pocket Book
  32. is being maintained for a little longer. They are currently available
  33. through Archive for ú200. Similarly, the special price on Schedule (ú19
  34. through Archive) is also being maintained and I think that there is
  35. going to be a special offer on the A-Link Ö see the Price List for
  36. details (if they arrive in time).

  38. Å    Almanac Ö Stallion Software Ltd have released a new version of
  39. Almanac. Existing users can have a free upgrade by sending their old
  40. disc to Stallion. The new version includes full support for 3D, larger
  41. icons, import/export, extendable notes, multiple telephone/fax numbers
  42. and support for FaxPack.

  44. Å    Alpine Adventure Collection Ö Alpine Soft-ware have released a games
  45. compilation including two of their original games, Cops and Plague
  46. Planet, plus one new one, Kidnapping Ö can you rescue your father, the
  47. famous scientist, who has been kidnapped? All three games come as a
  48. single compilation at ú15 +VAT from Alpine Software.

  56. Å    Archive Hints & Tips Ö Matthew Hunter, who has been helping out at
  57. Norwich Computer Services over the summer has converted the whole of the
  58. Archive Hints & Tips data into Knowledge Organiser II format. This means
  59. that you can search through the data much more easily and quickly,
  60. looking for different topics, themes and/or words. This version will
  61. only work on machines with 2Mb RAM or more but you do not need to own KO
  62. II to run this application. It comes with full instructions and costs
  63. ú12 inclusive to Archive members. Those who have bought the original
  64. Hints & Tips discs may return them for an upgrade for ú2.

  66. Å    Archive words discs on removable Ö We have now made all the Archive
  67. words discs available on removable hard drives. On either a 42Mb, 84Mb
  68. or a 105Mb, you can have all the words from Archive 4.5 up to the
  69. current issue plus separate files for Hints & Tips and Products
  70. Available. The 42Mb disc version is ú85, 84Mb is ú110 and 105Mb is ú85.

  72. Å    ARM3á+áfpa deal Ö We have managed to get some better pricing on the
  73. ARM3 + fpa combination. We can now offer the two together with the fpa
  74. installed and tested for ú235. If you have an old ARM3 for part

  77. Å    Assembler Help Ö Stallion Software Ltd has now produced Assembler Help
  78. (using Strong-HLP). This stand-alone program gives help for assembly
  79. language programmers. It includes help on ARM instructions, FP
  80. instructions, assembler directives, variables, macros, instruction
  81. formats and instruction speeds. Assembler Help costs ú15.95 +VAT from

  88. Å    CD-ROM drives Ö Morley Electronics now have two öRevolutionò CD-ROM
  89. drives available, an economy version for ú299 +VAT and a high
  90. specification one, the Revolution Pro, for ú499 +VAT (ú350 and ú575
  91. through Archive, respectively). Both the drives are fully multi-session
  92. and PhotoCD compatible but the Revolution Pro is capable of data
  93. transfer rates of over 300Kb/s.

  95. Å    Creator II Ö Alpine Software have produced an updated version of their
  96. game-creating program. The new version is ú49 +VAT from Alpine and
  97. registered users of Creator can upgrade for ú20 +VAT. New features
  98. include scroll text for demo writing, bar graph facility for displaying
  99. energy, shield levels, etc, tiled backgrounds for memory saving, and it
  100. now handles multi-level games. The new version comes on three discs with
  101. a 100 page manual.

  103. Å    Event is a diary system produced by ExpLAN for the Archimedes. It
  104. takes up very little space on the Archimedes and will talk to Schedule
  105. on the Pocket Book and Agenda on the Psion 3. Event costs ú24.95

  108. Å    Ethernet Card Ö Digital Services are the latest company to announce an
  109. Ethernet expansion card for Acorn machines. The new card is now shipping
  110. in quantity and has apparently been designed to provide maximum possible
  111. bandwidth on thin Ethernet systems. It incorporates two features which
  112. are claimed to be unique: the computeræs CMOS RAM may be password
  113. protected, thus preventing unauthorised personnel from tampering with
  114. the configuration and, secondly, the NetGain for Ethernet client
  115. software is included in the ROM. The latter enables fast application
  116. loading when used in conjunction with the NetGain server pack. Currently
  117. the card is available to fit A3000, A3020 and A4000 and is priced at
  118. ú139 +VAT from Digital Services.

  120. Å    Illusions Disc Magazine Ö Virtuality disc mag-azine and Illusions disc
  121. magazine have merged to form a single larger magazine. New prices for

  139. Å    Keyboards on special offer Ö If your keyboard is getting a little
  140. unreliable, (e.g. CapsLock problems) then you can try cleaning it. (See
  141. page 32 for details.) If the problems persist, it might be worth
  142. thinking of replacing it with a brand new keyboard. We have managed to
  143. get hold of about ten brand new Acorn keyboards (as supplied with A5000)
  144. and can sell them at a special price of ú95 instead of the normal price
  145. of ú123. If you want to buy a new Acorn mouse at the same time you can
  146. buy keyboard plus mouse for ú130.

  148. Å    Keystroke is a new desktop utility which allows you to perform a range
  149. of desktop activities, including using existing desktop programs like
  150. Impression by just pressing keys. We mentioned it last month but forgot
  151. to say that it is available for ú29.95 inclusive from Quantum Software.

  155. Å    Kimæs Game Ö There is now a computer version of the familiar parlour
  156. game which took on a new meaning in The Generation Game! Kimæs Game from

  160. Å    Lexicon 2 Ö Stallion Software Ltd have rel-eased a new version of
  161. Lexicon. Existing users can have a free upgrade by sending their old

  165. Å    Lingo Master Ö This is described by its author, Nigel Caplan, as öa
  166. unique shareware program which allows anyone to learn any language at
  167. any level for just ú5 registrationò. The aim of the pro-gram is to help
  168. you with your vocabulary storage and learning. It allows you to enter
  169. vocabulary (it comes with 2,000 words in three languages) and then tests
  170. you on that vocabulary. You can get an unregistered version for ú1 or
  171. register for ú5 or get a full site licence for ú10 from Nigel Caplan, 33

  174. Å    Memory madness Ö There is a general rise in the price of memory at the
  175. moment and supply is getting difficult on some items. In particular, the
  176. A3020/A4000 2Mb upgrades will not be available until early October and
  177. we think they will be about ú95 instead of the current ú70. We do have
  178. two 2Mb upgrades left in stock but will only sell them with A4000
  179. computers. The A3000 1-2Mb upgrade is now ú70 and the 1-4Mb is ú140.

  203. Publishing in Glasgow are offering various services to Archimedes users
  204. who need to get their DTP output professionally typeset and printed.

  207. Å    Replay DIY Ö Irlam Instruments can provide you with the means of
  208. creating your own computer movies. Replay DIY consists of a single-width
  209. podule plus software. You need an ARM3, at least 2Mb of RAM (4Mb for
  210. preference) and a fast hard disc to run it. (The new version of the
  211. A5000 would be ideal!) Plug in a video camera and you can start to
  212. record live sequences Ö or pre-record and digitise from a video
  213. recorder. Remember though that it chews up an awful lot of disc space Ö
  214. about 20Mb/minute! The software then compresses this down to about
  215. 4.5Mb/minute. Replay DIY costs ú250 +VAT from Irlam Instruments or ú285

  250. Å    Stokke Wing chairs Ö We have sold quite a few of the chairs we
  251. mentioned last month but are having difficulty importing more. The ones
  252. available from stock at the moment are beech and rosewood (not teak) and

  257. editor that supports editing multiple files and throwbackò. Strong-Ed is
  258. written in assembler and occupies less than 200Kb of RAM. It costs

  262. goodie, are fighting against the bad guys and solving various puzzles
