  3. CC Turbo Driver v4 Ö Iæd like to pass on to other Archive readers some 
  4. answers that I received from CC.

  6. 1) The command *Printer$BlackScale is no longer supported by the v4 
  7. TurboDrivers; instead, CC offer ösophisticated colour correction 
  8. tablesò; those for HP printers are öshortlyò to be released.

  10. 2) The Turbo module which could be used in earlier versions of the TD to 
  11. enable other printer drivers to use the dongled cable has been replaced 
  12. by the program !PrintQFS, which is cunningly hidden within 
  13. !System.!CCShared.

  15. By the way, CC informed me that Style has reached version 3.07. Free 
  16. upgrades from v. 3.04 can be obtained in the usual way Ö by sending in 
  17. master disk 1. (Donæt forget to send the return postage!)

  21. Fireworkz Pro Ö I reported some problems with version 1.20 to Colton 
  22. Software and was told (in a letter dated 15th March) that the latest 
  23. version, 1.20/50, fixes most of these problems. Version 1.21 öis due out 
  24. in about three weeksò. (Colton are currently saying, öit will be 
  25. available during Aprilò. Ed) The upgrade procedure here is to send in 
  26. both program disks Ö donæt forget Ö return postage!

  30. Printing from text editors Ö Iámentioned, in my review of lottery 
  31. packages, that one of them would not print on my LaserDirect, because it 
  32. Éprintsæ to a null file instead of to the printer. I have now stopped 
  33. trying to use Zap for the same reason. If I drag a text file to the 
  34. printer icon (with Zap installed instead of Edit), it prints properly 
  35. but if I try to print the document currently displayed on the screen, it 
  36. does not. I donæt know whether this is a general problem or whether I 
  37. have overlooked some control parameter.

  41. Many text editors, including both Edit and Zap, cheat when you try to 
  42. print and send the data directly to the parallel port. This is fine if 
  43. you have a standard printer, but if you use a different connection (e.g. 
  44. serial or laser direct), the file will not be printed. Also, if you use 
  45. a Turbo Driver, it is circumvented by Edit, so the text is corrupted. 
  46. There are a couple of ways around this.

  48. You can save to a file and drag that to the printer icon, or try 
  49. dragging the file from the save box to the print icon. This should have 
  50. the same result and it means that you donæt have to delete the file 
  51. afterwards. With Zap, you can also press <shift-print> rather than 
  52. <print> which will force the printout to go via the printer driver. 
  53. Since Zap allows you to reconfigure the keyboard shortcuts, you can set 
  54. <print> to print via the printer driver. (Choose Edit keys from the 
  55. options submenu, find the print keymapping which, by default, will be 
  56. set to Quickprint and change it to Printfile. Save the keys file and 
  57. choose Reload keys again, from the options submenu for the change to 
  58. take effect).

  62. Wolfenstein bugs Ö A few days after I had sent my Wolfenstein hint 
  63. (Archive 8.7, p.12) to Paul, I found that sometimes the saved files 
  64. remained open even though the !Cfs.!Run file was not.  I turned to 
  65. PowerSlave for help and this is what Eddie Edwards told me:

  67. There is a bug in Wolfensteinæs code which means that the files are only 
  68. closed when the current directory is on the same filing system as 
  69. Wolfenstein. Since I use ADFS and SCSI, this would often not be the 
  70. case.

  72. The recommended remedy is to add, at the start of the !Run file, a 
  73. Dir<Obey$Dir> command.

  75. This fix seems to work perfectly.

  77. Another problem I have is that Wolfenstein always kills my computeræs 
  78. beep. This bug can be fixed by adding:

  86. Turbo Drivers (not a) problem Ö The problem of Printers 1.28 with the 
  87. current versions of the Turbo Drivers has, apparently, now been fixed, 
  88. so please do not remove line 91 (as we stated in Archive 8.7 p13) of the 
  89. !RunImage file! If you still have a problem, contact Computer Concepts.
