!AScanRead : E.W.Ayers : 11th March 1993
ArcScan offers searches for keywords, but DOES NOT
provide for displaying or printing the contents of
a particular magazine issue or disc.
Using ArcScan files, !AScanRead fills this need.
The program reads the names of available Arcscan
data file directories from the !Custom file, and
presents a menu tree for selection of a particular
directory and a particular magazine issue or disc
file.
It is primarily intended for TYPE 0 (Magazine) files,
with regular volume and issue numbers, but
exceptionally will cope with the TYPE 1 files for
the ARCHIVE Shareware/Careware discs. (It will also
work on the RISCDevelopments TYPE 0 magazine files -
including BAU, MicroUser etc - if available).
The program is started by double-clicking on its
icon in the appropriate Desktop filer window, but
it is not WIMP-based or multi-tasking - it takes
over the whole screen. To return to the Desktop
when finished, type *QUIT then <SPACE>.
It has provision for inputting the necessary path
names to find the files it needs, but it is
simplest just to make the directory containing the
ArcScan !Custom file the CSD (Currently Selected
Directory) before starting !AScanRead. Utilities like
!CSD or !Menon make it easy to do this after a
SHIFT-DoubleClick on the !ArcScan icon.
It assumes the directory structure is essentially
as follows:
!ArcScan (need not be ROOT)
|
--------------------------------------------------
| | | |
CSD--> !Custom Archive ArDiscs Sharecare
| | |
) ARvol01 Advol01 Shareware
Data ) ARvol02 Advol02 Careware
Files) . . WIMPed
) . .
) ARvol06 Advol06
When entering menu choices, wildcards may be used
where no ambiguity results, e.g.:
*6 to select ARvolo6 or Advol06 from a menu
C* to select Careware
