Dear Gerald, %H1%FOR PIPELINE?
%JR%I have collected so many discs in the 6 months that I have had my Arc.
%JR%that they are getting out of control. I used to keep my BBC programs
%JL%on a 'Masterfile II' Database but for the present requirement this
would be too tedious.
%JR%I have modified a program called 'Catalogue' so much that I believe
%JL%I have gone beyond infringing any copyright. Using my program, one can
%JR%successively insert discs into any drive and the catalogues will be
%JL%listed into a file on a disc in one of the drives. This file can later
%JR%be loaded into Pipedream and displayed in a window. It lists on each
line, Progname, Progtype, Disctitle, Discsize, and Directory level.
%JR%When loaded into Pipedream, choices become available. Condensed
%JL%printing and mode 16 can be used, column 'A' can be widened to 51 and
%JR%the remainder of the 132/136 spaces can be used as a PD database. I use
%JL%column 'B' for up to 5 code letters, say (G)ames, (U)tility,
%JR%(D)atabase data, (S)preadsheet data etc. Readers will have their own
%JL%categories. Then I use column 'C' for a 70 or so character description
%JR%of the program. Alternatively, one can insert rows between each entry
%JL%and omitting column 'A' the whole line from column 'B' onwards is used
%JR%for type codes, description etc. Sorting under Pipedream can be done on
any column in the usual Pipedream way.
%JR%How can this be improved? It is easy enough in the program to separate
%JR%Progname, Progtype, Discname etc and file them separately. But how can
%JR%we load them separately into successive columns in a Pipedream database
%JR%window? I would like help on this. It would make sorting more versatile
if this could be done.
%JR%Secondly, the concept of 'Directory Level' is not so good as 'Path'. It
%JR%might be better if we could show the full path to the program. I
%JL%think this would be possible from the original program but I do not
%JR%fully understand it. On the other hand, the space taken-up in the final
%JR%listing may not be worth the hassle to get there. Perhaps one of your
smarter readers could show how this could be done.
You may find some of this worth putting into Pipeline.
Kind regards,
