This is an alpha release of my Proxy Server module.
This version now includes external network checking, and improved stability
over previous releases.
The logging code has been changed, so if you are upgrading, you will need to
re-setup the new config file.
Howver it still only supports http and telnet proxying, and a limited
selection of configuration options and commands.
Also changed/added/fixed since v0.10:-
All browser commands passed through, so logins for access to restricted
WWW pages now works.
Telnet proxy requested hostname can be entered in character mode aswell
as line mode - was causing problems with new versions of !FreeTerm
Telnet proxy now allows use of ':' or ',' to seperate host name and
port name
Returns a proper error, and quits if the required ear port is already
in use.
Maximum requests now honoured correctly.
Small pinging problem sorted out.
Logging method has been changed - see advanced file for more details.
It has been developed on a RiscPC 600, using ANT's Internet suite,
connecting using PPP via a Dial-Up internet account.
It has been tested with a RiscPC 600 server, using Fresco, Arcweb, FreeTerm,
AntTerm and CLI clients on Risc PCs and an A5000 running the Acorn internet
stack and connected via DCI4 ethernet cards.
No other combination of hardware/software has been used so I can't guarantee
it will work. However, I have heard that it works with Freenet.
If you have any problems please contact me and I will try and sort it out.
Future releases may provide more functionality, options and commands.
However the full version (which currently supports caching, external proxy
requests, configurable logging and limited validation) may be subject to a
registration fee. Please contact me for further details.
Plans for further development include:-
Cache mangement (intelligent expiry, auto loading/re-loading,
last modification verification, delayed requesting)
Full requesting client and requested server validation.
WWW and FTP client, FTP proxying.
Specified telnet proxy ports (setup a port that when requested
automatically connects to a specified site e.g. monochrome)
Known Bugs
----------
If you rmkill the module whilst it is in the middle of a transfer, it will
return an address exception and refuse to die. I'm looking into why it does
this (probably a memory handling problem).
Please contact me if you have any particular features you would like
to see implmented, and you never know, I might even get round to
adding them :)
