The programs in this directory may help people switching from FreeNews
to NewsHound.
ConvertID : This converts the freenews id history file into a newshound one
CopyGroups : This appends the freenews subscribed groups to the first newshound
news file it finds.
I recommend the following method if you're switching:
Firstly, run FreeNews and pick up any outstanding news
Copy !Newshound from the archive to a suitable place.
(Don't run it yet, though!)
Double click on !InstTrans in this archive
Run !NewsHound from your hard disc, and enter the hostname for your
news server.
Quit(if it's running) and reload newsbase
Setup the transport as in the main docs
(but **don't** subscribe to any newsgroups)
Quit newsbase again
Run ConvertID
Run CopyGroups
*NB* Now load the file name !NewsHound.Config.<whatever>Group into
a text editor and check none of the newsgroup lines are duplicates.
If you find NewsHound gets into a loop whilst fetching news,
you've forgotten to do the above.
Also, note that if you used wildcarded group names with FreeNews,
these won't work with NewsHound - you have to subscribe to each
group you want individually.
Run newsbase again
And everything should now be setup - connect to your ISP and do a
newsfetch with NewsHound.
Hopefully, this should all work fine, but I haven't been able
to test any of this exhaustively. Anyone who has problems should
email me with the details.
