1) RISCOS patch release

3) Aleph One ARMLinux mailing list
Anyone who wants to be kept informed about Aleph One's ARMLinux
distribution can now subscribe to an announcement mailing list by sending
an email to <majordomo@aleph1.co.uk> with "subscribe armlinux-announce"
in the body.
4) Acorn User cover CD 9 and Killer
Killer v3.400 incorrectly reports a virus on AU CD 9. Tau Press and
Pineapple have confirmed the CD is not in fact infected. The next version
of Killer will not generate this false alarm.

1) Web mail for schools
ICTeachers Ltd, a company run by serving teachers, has developed webmail
for schools that is Acorn compatible.
The webmail costs GBP1 per pupil per year, is a non profit service, allows
no advertising to children, is anonymous using @ickids.com or @icteens.com
addresses and is filtered.
Currently several Derbyshire schools are using the webmail service and
have been impressed with its performance.

2) KiwiSoft Virus Slayer 0.64
KiwiSoft's anti-virus tool, Slayer, has reached version 0.64, which
includes numerous under-the-bonnet changes, mainly to do with !Boot file
repairing and speed.
It is available from <http://www.kiwisoft.co.uk/software/slayer/>. The
standard version is free for personal use on a single computer.
If you have any comments on Slayer, and suggestions for further
development, the author would be pleased to hear from you.
3) SiteWriter now available
SiteWriter is a complete web site authoring tool for RISC OS. Instead of
assisting you to write HTML, SiteWriter allows you to 'draw' web pages.

4) SecureSockets (SSL/TSL) available to programmers
R-Comp is pleased to announce that SecureSockets, a module providing SSL
2, 3 and TSL security for RISC OS is now complete. This module allows the
use of secure transactions over any standard TCP/IP socket connection.
At the moment R-Comp are looking for a small number of interested
non-commercial programmers to use of the module, but it will be publicly
downloadable in due course, which is great news for RISC OS users.

5) RISC User in a Nutshell
With this final issue of the volume, RISC User reaches the end of its
life. To mark its passing, a limited-edition CD-ROM has been compiled.
RISC User in a Nutshell is crammed to the last few bytes with: all 120+
RISC User discs; RISC User original articles; full commercial products;
and bonus items.
The RISC User in a Nutshell CD-ROM is a strictly limited edition, and will
be available only until the end of May, for GBP35 (inclusive) UK, GBP37
elsewhere.

6) New Cameras from Spacetech
Spacetech has announced two new digital cameras from Olympus, the C860-L
(GBP300), the C960 Zoom (GBP400) and a new price for the C2020 Zoom
(GBP550).

7) Technodream and more shoot-em-ups on CD-ROM
Technodream is one of the best shoot-em-ups ever released for RISC OS.
This title, along with its baby brother Nevryon, relaunched a generation
of arcade fans who loved their RISC OS computers. To celebrate this,
RiscAction has compiled a special CD-ROM containing:
* Technodream
* Nevryon (for the BBC Micro under emulation)
* plus many other classic shoot-em-up games for all RISC OS computers
They have been checked for RISC OS 4 compatibility, but most will also run
under RISC OS 2, 4MB RAM and a hard disc are highly recommended.

8) The Chaos Engine - new game from RCI
The RISC OS version of The Bitmap Brothers' arcade/adventure game The
Chaos Engine is now available from R-Comp Interactive.
The game is for one or two players, and is a "top down" affair, with lots
of action and puzzles, coupled with RPG-style character and weapon
upgrading between levels.
The game will work on any RISC OS machine with an ARM 3 or higher, and
costs GBP20 inc VAT and UK carriage. It will even run on machines without
hard drives, although without sound and music.

9) Canon BJC-3000 and BJC-7100 from ExpLAN
ExpLAN have announced a new printer with driver for RISC OS Printers v1.64
or later.
The A4 BJC-3000 uses a similar ink system to the existing 6000-series,
with 4 separate ink tanks installed within a single cartridge. 180-720dpi
colour, up to 100gm paper with top-fed sheet feeder of up to 100 sheets.

10) New R7500 and NetWORX models from RiscStation
Two new RiscStation configurations are now available, the R7500 Lite
package (GBP579+VAT) now features increased hard drive capacity of 8.4GB
and 64MB RAM, and the RiscStation NetWORX HD is the network computer with
2GB local storage.

1) Game and application patches
Patches for use with StrngGrd (from The ARM Club) are available for
!BubleFair, !Gods, !JamesPond, !Lemmings1, !Blitz, !Chuck, !Lotus and
!Soccer.
Patches are also available for games !Lemmings2, !MadProf, !Simon (the
sorcerer), !Revelation, !X_Run, !Swiv and !Pinball, and applications
!Pipedream4 (4.10) !OakPCB (1.10), !Poster (1.04), !Joystick and
!CineWorks.

* Jcut, JPEG manipulation
Jcut will save out selected areas from a JPEG file without the image
degradation that results if you decompress the original and then
re-compress the trimmed file. RISC OS 3.6 or later.

* Slash2dot, file name conventions
A small program which changes the names of e-mail attachments from

2) Suffolk Acorn Risc Club (SARC) becomes Iceni
The Suffolk Acorn Risc Club (SARC) based in Ipswich, Suffolk, will now be
known as the Iceni Computer club.
RISC OS will continue to be the backbone of the club, but the new name is
intended to reflect the opening of our doors to multi-platform users, and
the area from which the club draws its membership (the part of south East
Anglia associated with the ancient Iceni Tribe).
