  36.   I missed writing the last editorial, due to technical difficulties, but
  37.   I'm back like never before! There's so much to write in this issues
  38.   editorial. It's all VERY important, and you are advised to read it!
  39.  
  40.   First of all, you may or may not know that the ANS website has finally
  41.   been receiving long needed updates, under the careful guidance of our new
  42.   webmaster, Stephen Courtney. Stephen has taken over the job from Richard,
  43.   as Richard had too many commitments to keep the site up to date. We are
  44.   very grateful for all that Richard did for ANS, and he has therefore been
  45.   left on the ANS board as "Life-Webmaster". As many of you know, he did
  46.   much more than just webmastering, and undertook many other ANS jobs.
  47.  
  48.   This brings me to my next point, which is that any titles given to the ANS
  49.   team really mean nothing! For example, James really does much of the
  50.   editing of some issues, for various reasons, and is therefore much more
  51.   than a "sub" editor. All the ANS team take part in discussions about ANS,
  52.   and are all actively involved in all ANS matters. From a one man team to
  53.   four, it's really going great. Thanks!

  55.   The site has changed a great deal, and is well worth a visit. Tell your
  56.   friends about it - in just two clicks, they can now subscribe to ANS

  59.   We have also acquired a "sub-webmaster", who is going to be working on two
  60.   special projects we are planning for the site, which we hope will prove

  113.   The Great Acorn Comic Relief Auction is now underway. At the web site

  122.  3) PCPro: illegal copies warning
  123.  
  124.   Aleph One Ltd is receiving a number of discs for upgrading which are
  125.   illegal copies of its software.
  126.  
  127.   These discs bear the words Aleph One Ltd, !PCPro v2.13, and a Serial
  128.   Number usually beginning 2. They do not bear the Aleph One logo, and are
  129.   dot-matrix-printed on a blank label.
  130.  
  131.   The owners of such discs are VICTIMS of software theft; Aleph One wishes
  132.   to make clear that it has never issued such discs; all its published
  133.   software bears labels with the Aleph One logo printed on the label by
  134.   offset printing, not dot-matrix printing. Illegal discs are not valid to
  135.   obtain the Upgrade price of GBP40 for PCPro 3, and Aleph One charge GBP70
  136.   to those who present them.

  138.   Aleph One are eager to learn where these discs came from, and so the first
  139.   three people who send illegal discs with documentary evidence of their
  140.   origin will in fact be eligible for the Upgrade price of GBP40.

  195.   re-fetches of sites.

  205.   The eMate Connectivity Suite software from Avie Electronics is now at

  209.   The eMate Connectivity Suite allows you to transfer files from your eMate
  210.   (or other Newton computer) to your Acorn. Documents are automatically

  296.  4) LineEditor 2.73 released
  297.  
  298.   LineEditor 2.73, which adds Unix shell like features to the Acorn CLI and
  299.   task windows, is now available.

  301.   The major new feature in this release is completion of *-commands, so you
  302.   can type "*Hel", hit tab and LineEditor will complete it to "*Help". If
  303.   there are multiple completions, you can either list them or cycle through
  304.   them as with the other sorts of completion supported.

  309.  5) StrongED 4.60 beta released
  310.  
  311.   StrongED 4.60 is now in beta. The main new feature in this version is that
  312.   it can do spell checking, using Computer Concepts' !SpellMod module, and

  316.  6) Q-Lock, IDEA file encryption
  317.  
  318.   The first public release of Q-Lock is now available for download at
  319.   http://web.bham.ac.uk/N.M.Queen/pgp/acorn.html

  321.   Q-Lock supersedes an earlier program PGPlock. It does the same thing, but
  322.   is now a stand-alone program, no longer requiring PGP or other supporting
  323.   software. It also has some new features and some extra security.
  324.  
  325.   Q-Lock enables you to encrypt all your sensitive data or to retrieve it,
  326.   with just a double click and pass phrase. You can encrypt and decrypt not
  327.   only single files, but a whole directory structure in one operation.
  328.  
  329.   The encryption will completely hide not only the data, but also the nature
  330.   of the directory structure, the filenames, etc. The encryption system in
  331.   Q-Lock relies on the well established IDEA cipher, which is the same
  332.   cipher used for 'conventional encryption' in PGP.
  333.  
  334.   Q-Lock also makes use of Sergio Monesi's powerful utility Nuke to erase
  335.   all traces of the original files from the disc after they are encrypted,
  336.   making it impossible to recover them. When a file is 'deleted' by RISC OS,
  337.   only its entry in the directory structure is removed, but all the data
  338.   remain on the disc surface and can easily be recovered by means of a disc
  339.   editor or an 'undelete' utility. Nuke prevents such data recovery.
