B1:Click to change SPEECH OPTIONS|Meg. Speed, Talk-as-you-type options.
B2:Click to set or open at BOOKMARKS.|MSave your position and the name of the file.
B3:Click to change DISPLAY OPTIONS.|Me.g. Font, Size, Margins.
B4:STOP. Click to stop speaking.
B5:PAUSE. Click to pause speaking. Click again to resume speaking.|MThe ESC key can also be used to pause the speech.
B6:PLAY. Click to speak text from the cursor onwards.
B7:CARET. Click to make the caret (cursor) follow the text as it is spoken. This button is highlighted while the cursor is at the speech position. Click again to de-highlight and stop the caret following the speaking.
B8:PRINT. Click to print the text.
B9:SPELL. Click to display the spell-check window.|MIts 'Skip' button starts the spell check from the cursor position.
D0:FONT. The name of the font in which the whole of the text is displayed.
D2:SIZE. The point size of the font in which all the text is displayed. Make sure that the system configuration option is set to use anti-aliasing for font sizes up to the value specified here. Typical value: 13.
D3:LINE SPACING. Sets spacing between lines of text. A larger value leaves more space between lines, a small value puts them closer together. Typical value: 144.
D4:PAGE WIDTH. Sets the width of the text window (in OS units). A value of 1240 will make the window fill the whole screen in screen modes such as 12, 15, 20, and 27.
D5:LEFT MARGIN. Sets the width of the margin at the left of the text (OS Units).
D6:RIGHT MARGIN. Sets the width of the margin at the right of the text (OS Units).
M1:Bookmark slot. Shows a filename and line number within the file. Click on a bookmark slot to select it before using the OPEN AT BOOKMARK, SET BOOKMARK, or DELETE buttons below.
M7:OPEN AT BOOKMARK. Select a bookmark slot above then click here to load the file shown in the bookmark into the TextReader. The cursor will be returned to where it was when the bookmark was set.
M5:SET BOOKMARK. Sets a bookmark, which refers to the file which is currently loaded into the text reader, and remembers the position of the cursor. Uses the selected slot, or if none then a free one.
M6:DELETE. Firstly, click on one of the four bookmark slots above. Click the DELETE button to delete the bookmark from that slot.
O0:Save. Saves the selected options to disc so they are remembered.
O1:Swap b/d This option is for use with people who confuse the letters 'b' and 'd'. Used with the 'Phonetic' option. The suggested word list will include words formed by exchanging the letters 'b' for 'd' and v.v.
O2:D & T after N Used with the 'Phonetic' option. If this option is set, the suggested word list will include words which have 'd' or 't' added to the end, if the specified word ends in 'n'.
O3:Option 3. No effect. Reserved for additional optional rules.
O4:Option 4. No effect. Reserved for additional optional rules.
O5:Depth. Recommended value is 3. A value of 2 will speed up the construction of the suggested word list, but the search will not be as thorough. A value of 4 may find more words, but will be slower, especially with long words.
O6:Qwerty. Used with the 'Typo' option. For short words, only mistyped letters on nearby keys on a qwerty keyboard are considered. Turn off when checking text not entered from a keyboard (eg. text read by an optical character reader).
O7:Trace. For development use only.
O8:Phonetic. When enabled, the suggested word list will include 'sounds like' words. The extent of the search is controlled by the 'Depth' option, and by optional rules such as 'Swap B/D'. A phonetic search may be slow on long words.
O9:Typo. When enabled, typographical errors are assumed. These include missing letter, extra letter, pair of adjacent letters swapped, wrong letter typed. A phonetic check at depth '1' is also included. Only 1 error is corrected.
P0:Suggested words. Use UP and DOWN keys, or the mouse, to select a word from the list. Click with ADJUST to speak the word. The list is produced according to the options in the 'Options - Spell' dialogue box.
P1:Specified Word. Type a word here, followed by RETURN, to produce a list of suggested spellings in the scrollable window. Or click on a word in the text window to copy it here and to produce a list.
P3:PHONETIC. Set to enable a phonetic search, which will include words which 'sound like' the specified word. The extent of the phonetic search can be controlled using the 'Options - Spell' dialogue box.
P4:TYPO. Set to enable include words which assume typographic errors have been made (swapped pairs of letters, missing letter, extra letter, etc.). Only one error will be assumed.
P6:SKIP. Ignore the current word and find the next spelling error in the text, starting at the cursor position.
P7:REPLACE. Replace the highlighted word in the text by the currently selected word from the scrollable window. Words can be selected using the UP and DOWN keys, or by the mouse. The spellcheck then continues.
P8:OK. The word which has been found is not an error. It is remembered, temporarily, so that when next found, it will not be shown as an error. The spelling check of the text is continued.
S4:SPEAK ON CLICK. When set, words are spoken whenever the mouse is clicked on them.
S5:LETTERS. The name of each letter is spoken as it is typed.
S6:SOUND. The 'sound' of each letter is spoken as it is typed.
S7:PART WORDS. As a word is typed, as each letter is typed, the sound of the incomplete word is spoken at each stage.
S8:WORDS. Each word is spoken as it is typed. The word is spoken when the following character (such as space or punctuation) is typed.
S9:SENTENCES. Each sentence or clause is spoken when it has been completed. The end of a sentence or clause is assumed when any of , ; : . ? ! are typed.
S10:PUNCTUATION. Speaks the names of punctuation characters while reading text.
S11:ANNOUNCE CAPS. Single Beep indicates a word with an initial capital|MDouble Beep: word all in capitals, Double Low Beep: Mixed upper and lower case.
S12:Slowest speed of speaking.
S13:Slow speech.
S14:Normal speed, but prevents words being run together. This may sound clearer, but will not sound as natural.
S15:Normal speed.
S16:Faster speech.
S17:VOICE. Select a voice from a menu.
S18:SENTENCE PAUSE. Leaves an extra pause between each sentence.
S19:REPEAT CYCLE. When the end of the text is reached, the whole text will be spoken again, starting at the top. Useful for demonstrations.
S20:ANNOTATIONS. Specifies which character is used for control codes within the text. By itself, it gives the following word extra stress.
V2:Can be used to set the saved file name if required.
V3:Drag this icon into a directory viewer to save as a text file. Or drag to an application icon bar icon, or into an application window to export to that application.
V4:SELECTION. Select this option to save only the selected part of the text (marked in black).
V5:ADD NEWLINES. If this option is set, then each line on the screen will be saved with a newline character after it. Useful if the saved text is going to be displayed later without formatting.
