  1.               ReadMe1st: Important information about 6502Dem
  2.               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  4. NOTE: This demo version lacks the following features: 
  5. the loading of sampled BBC tapes, the saving of snapshots of the emulator 
  6. state, the saving of emulator screens as Sprites, and Electron emulation. 
  7. All other features are fully implemented.
  8.  
  9. To obtain any of the Superior Software games described in the documentation,

  12. The software on this disc has been archived to save space. This means that
  13. it must be installed before it can be run. To install the software follow
  14. the simple instructions below.
  15.  
  16. Documentation for the emulators and the tape software can be found in
  17. archives in the 'Docs' directory.
  18.  
  19. These instructions assume you are installing to a harddisc. The procedure
  20. for installing to floppy is similar, but will either require you to use a
  21. RAM disc as temporary storage, or to swap discs many times.
  22.  
  23. Installing 6502Em to harddisc:
  24. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  25. [6502Em is archived, and needs to be installed and activated before it
  26. can be run.]

  28. 1) Insert the cover disc in drive 0.
  29. 2) Run ArcFS. (Its icon will appear on the icon bar.)
  30. 3) Double-click the !6502Dem. (A Filer window will appear.)
  31. 5) Open a Filer window on your hard drive where you want to install 6502Dem.
  32. 6) Drag the !6502Dem and !Rip65Host applications from the cover disc Filer
  33.    window to the harddisc Filer window.
  34. 7) Now run the installed !6502Dem. This will tell you to run !Rip65Host
  35.    first.
  36. 8) Open a filer window containing !65Host. (If you do not have a copy of
  37.    !65Host, a copy can be found in the Acorn directory inside the !6502
  38.    archive on the cover disc; copy this to the same directory as 6502Dem
  39.    is being installed in.)
  40. 9) Double-click on !Rip65Host; this extracts the BBC operating system from
  41.    inside !65Host, and inserts it into !6502Dem.
  42. 10) Delete !Rip65Host from the hard disc.
  43. 11) If you copied !65Host out of the archive on the floppy, you can now
  44.     delete it from the harddisc.
  45. 12) Done!

  47. [If you have access to a Master and/or Master compact, you may like to run
  48. the 'Utils.SAVERoms' program on them to obtain the operating systems for these
  49. machines too. The resulting files can be placed inside !6502Em.ROMs.Master and
  50. !6502Em.ROMs.Compact as Documented in the Docs.ROMs file. This will allow these
  51. machines to be emulated too.]

  53. Why aren't the BBC/Master/Master Compact Operating Systems included?

  56. The simple answer is we are not allowed to. If we had our way, we would
  57. supply every copy of 6502Em with BBC, Master, Master compact, and the newer
  58. Master operating systems built in. This would be considerably simpler for
  59. all concerned.

  61. Unfortunately, Acorn told us that we would need to pay £5000 for the rights
  62. to distribute these operating systems. As a small company we cannot possibly
  63. afford this much money, and so we have had to distribute the software without
  64. the ROM images in an easily upgradable form.

  66. Apologies for the inconvenience, but there is nothing we can do about this.
