This directory contins a number of resources to get you connected to the Internet.
• The STARTERPAK archive conatins all the programs needed for internet access using a SLIP connection, such as is provided by Demon Internet Services. You are encouraged to read both the Docs.StarterTXT and the Docs.FAQs.AcornFAQ text files before proceeding, as they give an excellent background to the problems and issues involved in connecting to the Internet.
• The ARCWEB archive contains the ArcWeb web browser. This is something of a modular package – ArcWeb itself translates HTML files, and needs other programs to download them from the Internet. One such program is provided: ArcWebK9Q. This can be copied into the WebHelper.AppDir directory, which will enable ArcWeb to start it automatically when run. The ArcWebTCP application is not for use with the TCPIP program provided in the starter pack – it is for use with Acorn’s TCPIP networking suite. Before running ArcWeb, you should copy the WebCache application onto your hard disc – or onto some other medium which is not read-only.
• The WEBSTER directory containsthe Webster web browser. This is all one application, and should run with KA9Q as it stands, though experience has shown that it is best to copy it onto a hard disc first. This archive also contains Robin Watts’s HTML document on ARM instructions and timings as an example of HTML.
• The HTMLTOOLS archive contains a set of tools to allow HTML pages to be created and edited in Impression (Style or Publisher). These tools are Shareware, and if you find them useful you should register – full details are given in the archive.
