  14. Demonstration files:
  15.  
  16.      A  number of  demonstration files have  been  included  with 
  17.      this  release.  These files  can be found on the disc in the 
  18.      'Demos' directory.
  19.  
  20.      All  of  these files have been saved without  any  'drumkit' 
  21.      information.  When Rhythm-bed is loaded, a 'default' drumkit 
  22.      is   loaded.   All   the  demonstration  files   will   work 
  23.      satisfactorily with this drumkit,  as they obey a 'standard' 
  24.      format. For more information on this see below.

  26.      If  you  have  a  MIDI podule with  a  suitable  sound  unit 
  27.      attached,  and  you wish to hear the demonstrations  through 
  28.      this, you will need to load a suitable drumkit for your set-
  29.      up. See below for details.

  33. The Standard Layout:
  34.  
  35.      All the demos have the following standard track  layout.  If 
  36.      you  are  handing around  your own Rhythm-Bed files,  it  is 
  37.      best to stick to this format as much as possible.

  39.                         Track 1: Bass drum
  40.                         Track 2: Snare drum
  41.                         Track 3: Closed Hi hat
  42.                         Track 4: Open Hi hat
  43.                         Track 5: Ride/Crash or Hand Clap
  44.                         Track 6: Rim Shot or Stick
  45.                         Track 7: Low Tom
  46.                         Track 8: High Tom

  50. Drumkit files:
  51.   
  52.      A number of drumkits have been supplied with this version.
  53.      
  54.      There  are  two basic types of drumkit files  included  with 
  55.      this version: 8-track drumkits and 64-track drumkits.
  56.  
  57.      The 8-track drumkits all have the same general  layout,  and 
  58.      the demonstration files will work best with these.  The  64-
  59.      track  versions  are really intended for  people  with  MIDI 
  60.      expanders  or  keyboards,  since these can play a  lot  more 
  61.      drum-sounds at any one time than the Archimedes sound system 
  62.      can.
  63.  
  64.      The  two  types are distinguished from each other  by  being 
  65.      saved in two separate directories, '8-track' and '64-track'. 
  66.      These directories can be found in the  'Drumkits'  directory
  67.      on the disc.

  71. Description of each of the demonstration files:

  74. Default             This  is a standard layout,  8-track  drumkit
  75.                     for use with 'VoxBeat' drum modules.
  76.  
  77. 8-track.DrumKit1    When  Rhapsody  was  released,   the  package
  78.                     included a module called 'DrumKit1',  this is
  79.                     a   drumkit  for   it.   Unfortunately,   the 
  80.                     module  only  contained  4  sounds,   so  the  
  81.                     demonstration files may not come out too well
  82.                     using it.

  84. 8-track.QY10        An  eight track drumkit file for  the  Yamaha 
  85.                     QY10.  The  layout  on  the  QY10  is  a  bit 
  86.                     strange,  so this file may not be of much use 
  87.                     to other Yamaha products.
  88.  
  89. 8-track.SQ2         An  eight track drumkit file for the  Ensoniq 
  90.                     SQ2. This file may be of use to other Ensoniq 
  91.                     keyboards / expanders.
  92.  
  93. 8-track.U20         An  eight track drumkit file for  the  Roland 
  94.                     U20  keyboard.  This file will be of  use  to 
  95.                     other  Roland  equipment,  as the  layout  is 
  96.                     virtualy  the same across the  roland  range. 
  97.                     The MIDI Transmit channel may need  adjusting 
  98.                     for some instruments.

  100. 8-track.VoxBeat1    This  is  a copy of  the  standard  'default' 
  101.                     file.  It  is an eight track drumkit for  use 
  102.                     with 'VoxBeat' modules.
  103.  
  104. 64-track.CasioCT660 A  full drumkit for use with the Casio  CT660 
  105.                     keyboard.  This file might be of use to other 
  106.                     Casio  equipment,  although it has only  been 
  107.                     tested with the CT660.
  108.  
  109. 64-track.Keyboard   This  file  runs through all the notes  on  a 
  110.                     standard   keyboard.   Try  loading  it   and 
  111.                     recording  yourself  playing,  say  a  piano, 
  112.                     though MIDI.  All the notes you play will  be 
  113.                     put  into  the  grid.   This  can  be   quite 
  114.                     effective at high grid resolutions.

  116. 64-track.RolandE35  A  full drumkit file Roland's  E35  keyboard. 
  117.                     The basic layout very similar to the new 'GS' 
  118.                     Standard,  so  it should work with a  lot  of 
  119.                     keyboards/expanders.
  120.  
  121. 64-track.RolandU20  A   full  drumkit  file  for   Roland's   U20 
  122.                     keyboard. The layout seems to differ slightly 
  123.                     from the above,  but is correct for the  U20. 
  124.                     Some  earlier  Roland  keyboards  might  work 
  125.                     better with this than the above.

  127. 64-track.YamahaQY10 A   full  drumkit  file  for  Yamaha's   QY10 
  128.                     sequencer/expander.  This  will probably  not 
  129.                     work  with other Yamaha  products,  but  it's 
  130.                     worth a try.

  134. VoxBeat modules: 
  135.  
  136.      A few VoxBeat modules have been supplied  with this version.
  137.      They can  be found in the  'VoxBeat'  directory on the disc. 
  138.      More VoxBeat modules are supplied with the full version.

  140.      These  modules  provide an extra  eight  drum sounds.  Their
  141.      sounds are arranged in the format described above under 'The
  142.      Standard Layout'.
  143.      
  144.      For best results in  !Rhythm-Bed, use the '8-track.VoxBeat1'
  145.      drumkit file. 
  146.      
  147.      To load a VoxBeat module, simple double-click its icon in
  148.      the filer window.

  152. Loading a MIDI file:
  153.      
  154.      Rhythm-Bed now allows the loading of MIDI files (any format).
  155.      Owners of MIDI podules and sutiable sound unit need to load the
  156.      'Keyboard' drumkit file found within the 64Track directory
  157.      before attempting to load the MIDI file.

  163.       Rhythm-Bed now synchronizes to Serenade, our new MIDI sequencer,

  192. Serenade is a 16 track MIDI sequencer for the range of Acorn RISC OS
  193. machines. A great deal of effort has gone into creating a graphical user
  194. interface that gives access to the power of Serenade without making it
  195. complex to use.
