  1. PEP Bullwinkle (version 1.02)

  4.  !PEP-Bull is an amusing demonstration of how speech synthesis can be used.
  5. It utilises software written by PEP Associates for the SpeechSystem package.
  6. If you have the Atomwide VIDC enhancer fitted, you may need to edit the !Run
  7. file to get it to sound right. However, this should only be necessary if you
  8. have the enhancer switched on all the time, otherwise the software should
  9. work as-is.
  10.  
  11.  You can change the text and speech produced by Bullwinkle by editing the
  12. "Wisdoms" file. The program "MakeWisdom" may be used to automate the
  13. creation of the "Wisdoms" file; simply write the text then run "MakeWisdom"
  14. to have the phoneme text added in. Please note, however, that "MakeWisdom"
  15. needs SpeechSystem in order to translate the text into the phonemes.

  17. Out of date modules
  18. -------------------
  19.  This demo uses a shareable module - ABCLibrary. This module is available
  20. from other sources in earlier versions (eg Genesis comes with an older
  21. version of ABCLib). Unfortunately, once a particular version of this module
  22. has been loaded, it cannot safely be replaced because an active application
  23. may be using it and the machine will crash as a result.

  25.  Thus, if the demo notices that the module is already in memory but it is
  26. too old, it complains rather than attempts to replace it. If this happens,
  27. you should locate the old version of the module on your disc(s) and replace
  28. it with the version supplied within the demo. Existing applications will
  29. continue to work happily with this newer versions.
