This directory contains a number of files connected to Acorn User and Acorn Computing:
• The DISCS directory contains a vast library of past cover and subscription discs from both Acorn User and Acorn Computing. Now you can re-discover some old favourites from Star Info. Note that some of the older software will only work on 8-bit machines such as the BBC B, Electron and Master. This has been deliberately left on the disc, in case anyone who still has one of these machines as well as an Archimedes finds it useful.
ACORNCOMP contains a complete set of Acorn Computing cover and subscription discs, dating back to the first Acorn Computing issue in October 1990. The archive ACMENU contains the Acorn Computing menu program; if you want to use this, install it on the icon bar. It will then automatically unpack any archives dragged to it. The cover discs are in the COVER directory, and the subscription discs in the SUBS directory. Note that some files have been removed where there is a more up to date copy elsewhere on the CD-ROM - for instance, with the Sibelius demo.
ACORNUSER contains a set of Acorn User discs dating back five years to April 1990. The pre-October 1993 discs are in the SUBS directory and the others are in the COVER directory. Updates of certain programs, and collected versions of programs which were spread over several issues are in the UPDATES directory.
• EDUCATION contains a few Draw files which may be useful to teachers, supplied by our very own Geoff Preston. Also included is a DataPower/Advance database for Key Stages one to four.
• MAGAZINES contains some Impression Publisher Plus documents. The complete February 1995 issue of Acorn User is in the AU_FEB95 directory, exactly as output to film. The two Computing for the Family supplements are also here, in the CFTF1A, CFTF1B and CFTF2 archives. The documents use a few non-standard fonts which are in the FONTS directory. Note that these fonts are copyright and should not be distributed further.
