DooMenu v2.2
for
DOOM II
==============================================================================
Created by Sam Westbrook
==============================================================================
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DooMenu v2.2 is for use with DOOM II. It allows you to choose
skill level, mission, add external files, and use many more options.
DooMenu v2.2 now has mouse support (I recommend using a mouse).
It has a new graphical window-type display, and is quick and easy to use.
You don't ever have to worry about typing in command line again. I hope
you enjoy it.
DooMenu v2.2 is Shareware and may be distributed freely.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GETTING STARTED
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you use DooMenu v2.2, you must first put it in the directory
where your DOOM2.EXE file is stored. If DOOM2.EXE is not found, DooMenu v2.2
will not run. Once it is in the directory with your DOOM2.EXE file
(presumably C:\DOOM2) your ready to go. Now, just type 'DMENU22'.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COMMANDS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DooMenu v2.2 has many command buttons. When you start DooMenu v2.2,
you will see five command buttons. Here is what they do:
Exit - Of course, this command exits you from DooMenu v2.2. This can be
used at any time to exit without starting up DOOM II. However, you can
always cancel if you happen to press it by accident.
Options - Once this button is pressed it will display a menu that allows you
to choose your options. The option menu is further reviewed in the option
section down there somewhere.
Add File - This command button allows you to add an external .WAD file to
your start-up. Once it is pressed a window will be displayed giving you a
directory, drive, and file list. Go through it to find the .WAD file you
want. When your done, simple press the 'DONE' button (If no file is
selected it will not allow you to proceed unless you choose one or press
cancel). NOTE: The origional DOOM .WAD files will not work with DOOM II.
Run Doom - This command button will exit the program and run DOOM II
according to your specified options, such as: Skill Level, Mission, External
Files, and any other option you choose.
Display Doom Start-Up - This will display a window that will show your
current start-up status; listing Skill Level, Mission, .WAD File, and your
selected options.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SELECTING SKILL LEVEL AND MISSION
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, its pretty simple, just click on the desired Skill and Mission
displayed in the list boxes when you load DooMenu v2.2. To look at or choose
more missions click on the down or up arrow on the right side of the list box.
DooMenu v2.2 allows you to choose from the 1st through to the last
two secrect levels - 31 and 32. Also, you can choose any Skill Level you
want, which are the original five.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OPTIONS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As your read above, options are selected by pressing the 'OPTIONS'
command button. The options menu will display fourteen options to choose
from. When you click on a some options like turbo, and record, the program
will ask you to input information that is needed to use the option. Below
is a list of the fourteen options and what they do.
Devparm - Allows you to take .PCX pictures while playing. Just press 'F1' at
any time to take a screen shot. Also, this parameter is used in conjunction
with many other options. WARNING: Disabling the Devparm parameter will
disable many other functions which including the warp command (Which is
needed to start-up on a certain level). This is why the Devparm command is
already selected for you.
Respawn - This option will make enemies regenerate in a non-Nightmare mode
after they have been killed. Good Luck >:-)
Nomonsters - This option will start the game with no monsters. It is
probably better used for a deathmatch game when you don't want monsters to
get in the way.
Nojoy - Pretty obvious - this option will disable the use a the joystick.
Nomouse - I bet you'll never figure out what this means. Yep, It disables
the mouse.
Nosfx - This option will disable the sound effects.
Nomusic - This option will disable the background music.
Nosound - This option disables both sound effects and background music.
Fast - This option will disable respawn in Nightmare mode.
Altdeath - This option will activate deathmatch v2.2 rules.
Loadgame - This option will allow you to start with a previously saved game.
When you click on this option, it will ask you which save game you want
to start from - Choose a number from 0 to 5. When your finished press the
'DONE' button. If you decide you didn't wan't it after all, just click on
the option again to remove it.
Playdemo - This option will allow you to play .LMP files. When clicked it
will display a window exactly like the one mentioned in the 'Add File'
command. The only difference is that you can only choose .LMP files.
Neat huh? The reason why the drive list and dir list are disabled is because
you can't choose an .LMP file from another directory. You can, however,
with .WAD files. For more info see the 'Add File' command in the COMMAND
section.
Record - This option will allow you to create your own demos. When clicked
it will display a window that asks you to enter the name of your new demo.
NOTE: Do not add the extention '.LMP' to the end of your file name, DOOM II
does this for you.
Turbo - This option will increase the speed of the marine by up to 255%.
When it is clicked a window will be displayed with a horizontal scroll bar.
Press on the right or left arrow of the scroll bar to the desired speed.
The marine's speed percent will be displayed above as you move the cursor on
the scroll bar.
That's all the options that I have right now. Remember, to disable
an option that you didn't really want to use, just click on it again and
watch the little 'X' in the box disappear.
