- It is best to SAVE your game with the F5 key as often as possible, so if
- you die you may reload your game from the last position.

- Your name is Jerrod Wilson. You live in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Your
- brother, Jake Wilson, has been acused of a crime he didn't commit, and
- he was forced to move from Brooklyn Heights. You work at the Brooklyn Star,
- a reporter job. Your parents have died, a few years before. The year is
- 1848. Just before James Marshall started the California Goldrush. The best
- way to do this game, is to go to the post office first, and type RING BELL.
- Then when the teller asks you what he can do, type GET MAIL.The teller will
- then place the mail on the counter. Then type GET LETTER. Then, to open the
- letter, type OPEN LETTER. Read the postmark. It will say Sutter Fort on it,
- which is where the mail has come from. Then look at the stamp. You will
- notice a lump underneath it. Type GET STAMP, and you will peel the stamp
- off the letter. A gold flake falls out. Type GET FLAKE, then LOOK at the
- FLAKE. You will find out that whoever sent you this mail, has discovered
- gold at Sutter Fort, California. Then read the letter, it will be from
- your brother, and he will tell you that you need proof to bring to him,
- so that he will know it is you when you find him. You have decided to sell
- your house, so type SELL HOUSE. Then go home, and type USE KEY to open
- the gate. Then type USE KEY again to get inside your house. Then LOOK
- at the ALBUM on the table. GET the family PICTURE. Then walk over to the
- desk, and type LOOK DESK. You will notice that the desk is open, so type
- CLOSE DESK. You will then see the bank statement. Type GET STATEMENT,
- and then to find your account number, READ the STATEMENT. Then exit
- your house. If you find a real estate man there, TALK to him and sell your
- house for full price. If the goldrush has already happened, then sell it
- for as much as you can get. Then go to the bank, and up to the teller. Type
- GET MONEY, and then when you are asked for the account number type the
- number that is on your bank statement. After receiving your $200, go to
- the Grocery store and BUY VEGETABLES. Do not buy anything at the hardware
- store, for you will see later as to why not. Next, go buy a stage coach
- ticket. If you have not already sold your house to the real estate man,
- goto your house and sell it to him. Otherwise, continue as to buyinh a
- ticket. If the goldrush hasn't happened, you will get the ticket at a real
- cheap price. Next, go to the park. Do not walk on the grass, or you will
- lose points.GET the FLOWERS, and then go to the cemetery. Then find your
- parents graves,and DROP the FLOWERS. Then go to the gazebo, and LOOK at the
- CRACKS. You will notice a gold coin. GET the COIN. Next, go to the Brooklyn
- Star, and go into your boss's office and type QUIT JOB. This will quit your
- job, as you will be gone for awhile, and he would have probably fired you
- by then anyway. Then go to your office and type LOOK CLIPPINGS. Then go
- to the Livery, and walk inside. Do not walk near the horse, or you will be
- kicked, a sure loss of the game. Then make Shorty say, "Wait outside."
- (something like that). When he does this, go outside, and he will come out.
- Then type SHOW TICKET, and he will have the stage coach to come closer to
- you. Go over to the door, and type OPEN DOOR. You will then be on your way.

- You may type F8 to allow the messages, or if you want a speedy game,
- supress them. When you reach Independance, Missouri, you will be located
- at the Joint Stock Company (something like that). If you are dehydrated and
- sick, type EAT VEGETABLES. It will say "Yuk!", but it will straigten your
- digestive system so as not to get cholera. Then go to the group of men
- talking, and type TALK. The captain will ask for any donation whatsoever
- that you can contribute. Give him all the money you have left over. In
- other words, type PAY. Then he will give you his thanks, and send you
- on a mission to buy some animals. First, go to the screen to the right,
- and you will see a man lying down on the tree. Type TALK, and take the
- bible from him. Then go to the screen on the left, and then to the screen
- down. Go to the man selling the ox, and type BUY MATURE OXEN. Then your
- first assignment will be completed. Then go to the screen on the right
- (where you started from). Go to the captain and type TALK. Then he will
- give you another mission, as of when to tell him when to leave for
- California. Go to the screen on the right, and then to the screen up north.
- Then type LOOK GRASS, and you may have to do this for awhile. If the grass
- is muddy, and so on, then keep trying until you notice a change that the
- grass is drying. Then go to your captain again and TALK. You will then
- saddle up to leave for Cali.

- When you are traveling for California, you will only stop 2 times.
- Another thing,is that everything not of importance will be thrown overboard.
- So if you bought something at the hardware store, you wasted your money.
- The first time will be when the oxen are thirsty and hungry. This will
- be a spot somewhere near California. Type TIE CHAINS, so as to make
- the wheels so they will not move, saving your crew. Do this quickly,
- because your men will be still in the wagon and driving away. Then
- type UNTIE OXEN, and this will let the oxen get some water. Then you
- will be on your way again. A little later, you will come upon a desert.
- When this happens, you need to very quickly go up to the wagon and type
- LOOK BARREL. You will notice that there is water inside the barrel, and
- that it isn't a mirage. Then type DRINK BARREL. After that, type LOOK
- INSIDE WAGON, and you will notice some gross looking meat. But quickly type
- EAT MEAT, and after eating the meat, go to the screen on the left. You
- will then be on your way, and soon to arrive at Fort Sutter.

- When you are at Fort Sutter, enter it, not the mule corral. Go to
- the blacksmith's shop, and talk to the blacksmith. He will tell you
- to wait aside for a second, and do so. Then he will ask you some questions,
- such as where you have come from, and so on. The answers for the first 2
- questions are "yes" and "yes". When he asks you for your last name, type
- Wilson. Then type for your first name, Jerrod Wilson. When he asks you
- for your brother's name, type Jake. Then the blacksmith will give you
- a branding iron.Next go to the supply shop and BUY a SHOVEL with your gold.
- He will say "I am not giving it for free" so type PAY COIN.
- Then, exit the fort, to where the large scale map is shown. Then, go to
- the screen on the right and you will be at the American River. It is best
- to be on the riverside. type DIG, and most commonly, you will get "Noth'n".
- Do not get discouraged, but keep DIGgin and moving right. Do not try
- to mine gold when there is another miner on the screen. He will hang you.
- When yo have around $1500 in gold, go back to the supply shop and BUY
- a PAN and a BUY a LANTERN. You may use the PAN, and the DIG, when you are
- mining. When you finally get a "Dry Spell" message, there is no more gold
- to mine, so quit mining. After this, go to the mule shop (not the mule
- corral). Then BUY a MULE, and then GET the MULE. You must very carefully
- maneuver this animal around and keep him lined up with you, otherwise
- you will lose him, and screw up your game. When there is a tying post in
- sight, type TIE MULE. So you will not lose him during the game. Next
- take your mule to the blacksmith, and make sure you keep him lined up,
- and HEAT the IRON. Then BRAND your MULE. Then take your mule to the
- cemetery (remember, keep him lined up!) and go to Marshall William's
- grave. READ the GRAVESTONE, and then you will have a separate screen
- to type in. Type USE LETTER, and then you will have your letter on the
- screen.

- You will have holes something like that. Make sure #1 is over the
- 'R' in JANUARY for the death date. The #2 should be over the '2', the #3
- over the 1,#4 over the 'O', #5 over the 'O', and then #6 should be over the
- 'M'. If this does't work, then move the letter around the death date.
- READ PSALM 23 in your bible. Then take your mule to the Green Pastures
- hotel, to the right of the American River (past E: 16, S: 0). TIE the
- MULE to the post, and then enter. Then RENT ROOM 11, and you will notice
- that the room is already rented, and that there is a message for the man
- there. Take the message to him (upstairs), and KNOCK on room 11. Then
- when the man comes and asks "Whaddayawant?", GIVE him the MESSAGE. Then
- when he leaves, quickly enter his room and do the following as quick as
- possible. Go to the fireplace and LOOK at the FIREPLACE. You will notice
- there is a wheel. TURN the WHEEL, and ENTER the fireplace. You will
- then be in room 12. The first time you hear a SLAM!, the door in 11 has
- been shut, meaning the person is in his room. Every 2nd time you hear
- it slam, it is safe to go back to the fireplace. Next go to the window,
- and UNLOCK WINDOW, the OPEN the WINDOW. Then go to the table and GET the
- MAGNET, Then go over near the bottom of the screen and GET the STRING.
- A bird will fly in and out continuously. Go to the bird and LOOK at the
- BIRD. You will notice a capsule, then type PUT PICTURE IN CAPSULE. Then,
- the bird will fly out, and then return. Then go up to it, and LOOK at
- the BIRD. It will have an aerogram in its capsule. Type GET AEROGRAM,
- and then READ the AEROGRAM. Your brother will tell you of something
- stubborn that will lead you to him. This stubborn thing is a mule. Go
- back to the fireplace, and whenever it is safe to go into the other room,
- ENTER the FIREPLACE. Then leave the building. Then GET the MULE that
- you tied up. Then take your mule to the corral. Your mule is a very
- lazy mule, and its brand is a horshoe with a key on it. Go into the
- corral, and let your mule go in one of the stalls. Then LOOK at the
- other MULEs and find a "high-spirited and trusty" mule, and LOOK at
- its BRAND. If it has a brand like your other mule (horshoe with a key),
- then GET the MULE. If you pick the wrong mule you will be hung.
- Then go to E: 2 S:0 miles of Sutter's Fort, by the American River. Type
- FOLLOW MULE. If the mule is to lazy, go back to the corral and try to get
- a different mule that is "high-spirted and trusty" with the same brand.
- If you make the same mistake, repeat. Then follow the mule, after a while
- you will come to Jake's cabin. Enter his cabin, and GET the MATCHES off
- the table, then go to the rug, and MOVE the RUG. Then go outside and
- maneuver your way through the bushes up to the outhouse.Enter the outhouse,
- and type ENTER HOLE.Yes, enter the hole of the outhouse (I AM NOT KIDDING).
- You will then be around a whole bunch of crap. LIGHT your MATCH, then LIGHT
- your LANTERN. Go to the left, until you see a door. TIE the STRING to the
- MAGNET, and then PUT the MAGNET IN keyHOLE. Then LOWER the MAGNET. You will
- hear a noise, then RAISE the MAGNET. UNLOCK the DOOR, and go into the
- room on the other side. Watch your step, and go down the ladder as far
- as possible. Then you will have no other choice but to go left, and do so.
- Then get on the next ladder you see, and go down.Here you will find a pick
- at the bottom, then go to the right and USE the PICK in a few places. You
- will strike gold a couple of times, then GET the GOLD. Then go back up the
- ladder, and if you look very *closely* the ladder will end up on a ledge
- that leads left (not the one you came from). When you spot it, get off
- the ladder, and go on the ledge to the left. You will come upon a ladder,
- get on the ladder and go down. Then you will find another ladder going down
- (*becareful!*), and then go down it. When you will get to the bottom, you
- will see a passage leading left, and one leading to the right. You may
- now TURN OFF your LANTERN. Go into the passage leading left, and you
- will find your brother. He will talk to you for awhile, then when he
- goes back to mining, you will see a green "door" shaped object on the far
- wall (for CGA), go up to it, and USE your PICK on it. You will strike gold,
- GET the GOLD, then repeat using your pick and GETting the GOLD until you
- make a hole. When the hole is big enough to go through (USE your PICK while
- it is not), ENTER the HOLE. Congratulations, you have solved CALIFORNIA
- GOLDRUSH!!! Look at all that GOLD!!!
