- MODEM.INI- Modem File Initialization Strings
-
- For all those people having problems or would like to improve
- their F-15 III Modem Communications. First (if you haven't already)
- download from the MPS BBS (at 410-785-1410) Files Section
- F15303.ZIP, the patch/upgrade file, this will eliminate many of the
- non-communications bugs in F-15 III Strike Eagle and add a Desert
- Storm Scenario. Choose from the following list the appropriate modem
- initialization file for your modem. But, wait a minute, before you start
- on your modem initialization file make a Boot Disk as shown at the end
- of this text file. It has been found that many of the communications
- problems have been caused due to overly complex boots configurations
- and TSR's running in the back ground. Locate the MODEM.INI file in the
- MPS\F15 directory. With a non-word processor editor (Norton's, Xtree's
- or DOS EDLIN for example), edit the MODEM.INI file communications
- command lines to read the same as the one you choose. Leave the rest
- as it is. Before going into the "Modem Area" of F-15 III go to the
- "Quick Start" area jump in your F-15 III and calibrate your joystick.
- A joystick out of calibration will degrade the modem communications
- mode. After completing the joystick calibration, curser up to the pull
- down menu, at the top of the screen and abort the mission to bring you
- back to the "Home Screen". Go to the Modem Area and proceed as usual.
- In the event your modem is not listed, choose one which the commands
- are supported in your Modem's Manual.
- If your still having problems, you may have heard to reload the
- MPS F-15 Software using a plain vanilla boot disk. A plain vanilla
- boot disk is one in which only the COMMAND.COM has been transfered
- to a formatted disk, via the "C:\DOS\FORMAT A: /S" command. Prior,
- to reloading the software another good thing to do is to OPTIMIZE
- your Hard Drive. This can be accomplished with MS Dos 6.0+'s
- DEFRAG.EXE version of Norton's Speedisk or better yet Norton
- Utilities Speedisk Optimize "Full Optimization".

- **** Making A Boot Disk for F-15 Strike Eagle III ***
-
- Another problem found to effect F-15 III's modem communications
- are boot configurations. Make a Bootdisk. At your C:\MPS\F15
- directory (with a blank disk in your A: Floppy Drive) type Bootdisk.
- Your F-15 III software will make you a bootdisk. There are example
- boot configuration AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files at the end of
- this file. Edit the bootsdisk's configuration files to the ones
- supplied below, ***this is very likely***.
-
-
- Example: MS Dos 5.0 AUTOEXEC.BAT
-
-
- SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T4
- SET SOUND=D:\SBPRO
- C:\SBPRO\SBP-SET /M:12 /VOC:12 /CD:12 /FM:12
- PATH=C:\;C:\DOS
- LOADHIGH C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.COM
- PROMPT $P$G
- CD MPS\F15
- F15
-
-
- Example: DOS 5.0 CONFIG.SYS
-
- DOS=HIGH,UMB
- DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
- DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM X=B000-C400 FRAME=E000 5136
- BUFFERS=20
- FILES=20
-
-
- Example: DOS 6.2 AUTOEXEC.BAT file to be used on a boot disk. If you don't
- have a soundcard delete the first three lines. If you have a different
- sound card replace the first three lines with the initialization lines
- found in your present AUTOEXEC.BAT file. As of Microsoft Mouse Driver 9.0
- MOUSE.COM is now MOUSE.EXE, check your computer's AUTOEXEC.BAT file
- to find out which Mouse execution file you use.
- If you have any problems with it, temporarily rename the AUTOEXEC.BAT
- and CONFIG.SYS that your computer normally uses to boot from, found in
- your C:\ root directory. Copy the new AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files
- from your boot disk to your C:\ root directory and run MEMMAKER on it.
- After MEMMAKER is done, copy the files back to your boot disk, and
- rename your original AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS back to their original
- state.
-
-
- SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T4
- SET SOUND=D:\SBPRO
- C:\SBPRO\SBP-SET /M:12 /VOC:12 /CD:12 /FM:12
- PATH=C:\;C:\DOS
- LH /L:0;3,25424 /S C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.COM
- PROMPT $P$G
- MEM/C
- CD MPS
-
-
- Example: DOS 6.2 CONFIG.SYS
-
- DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
- DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM HIGHSCAN X=B000-C400 FRAME=E000 5136 X=D400-D4FF
