  15. Bonus Stages - There are bonus stages in levels 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7.
  16. Most bonus stages require that you meet some condition and 
  17. then fly into a seemingly solid area to enter the bonus area.  
  18. The conditions and areas are described below.
  19.  
  20. Level 2 - (condition: none) fly into the first ship opening 
  21. along the bottom of the screen in the last section of the stage 
  22. before meeting the boss (area after the giant carbonated 
  23. bubbles)
  24.  
  25. Level 3 - (condition: must have destroyed all of the guns on the 
  26. ground), fly up close to the low rock ceiling toward the end of 
  27. the level right before the last "mountain".
  28.  
  29. Level 4 - (condition: must have no power-up boxes lit at bottom 
  30. of screen), fly into the back of the Moai head located in the 
  31. middle of 3 heads toward the end of the level.  This particular 
  32. head will be facing away from you and all 3 heads are upright - 
  33. difficult to explain location w/o picture).
  34.  
  35. Level 5 - (condition: unknown), fly through the fire at the 
  36. corner of the inverted volcano just before the small passage 
  37. which leads to the 2-headed fire dragon.
  38.  
  39. Level 7 - (condition: unknown), fly through low corner just 
  40. after the 4 turrets where your ship would normally have to cut 
  41. diagonally upward.
  42.  
  43. Super Code
  44.  
  45. 1.   Start Game
  46. 2.   Up, Up, Down, Down, L, R, L, R, B, A, START
  47. This will power up your ship with missiles, force field, all 
  48. options, and more speed.  You can use this code once per level. 
  49. Original Konami code for Gradius and LifeForce will cause 
  50. GradiusIII ship to self-destruct. (Original code used Left and 
  51. Right instead of L and R, if you're curious.)

  53. 29 Extra Ships
  54. 1.   On title screen
  55. 2.   Hold Left on control pad and press A 3

  65. Spread Your Options 
  66. Select R Option (rotating options) from weapons panel.  Once you 
  67. have acquired all 4 Options, collect enough power-ups to again 
  68. hilite the "Option" option at the bottom of the screen.  Press 
  69. and hold the A button to increase the radius of your R Options.  
  70. This will make the R Option as effective (probably more so) as 
  71. any of the other Option types by covering a large portion of the 
  72. screen.

  74. Arcade Game Mode - On the Option Mode Screen, select Game Level 
  75. and press the A button as fast as you can until the level reads 
  76. "ARCADE".

  89. the lower left hand corner of your screen.

  176. On level 8, there is a red egg in the middle of the level.  If 
  177. you kill all the small dinosaurs before you crack it, you'll be 
  178. flown to a hidden bonus level where you can powerup your weapon 
  179. and collect a key to enter the blue dots on the map.  On level 
  180. 9, there's a red egg at the beginning of the level that also 
  181. takes you to a hidden level.

  183. Re-enter Dinosaur
  184. When you are inside the dinosaur in the last stage, there is a 
  185. way you can continue inside him if you die.  When you are asked 
  186. to continue, select "YES" and you will be shown on the map in 
  187. the last white "continue" spot.  Go to the last stage, and when 
  188. you are in it, press START to pause the game, and then SELECT.  
  189. You will automatically be transported inside the dinosaur 
  190. without having to go through the stage and fight him all over 
  191. again.

  193. Max Out Your Lives 
  194. Go into a level that has a 1-Up in it. Finish the stage and go back
  195. in it. Find the 1-Up, collect it, then press START and SELECT to
  196. get out of the level.

  198. Extra 1-Ups - Collect a key and go to the first blue spot on the
  199. map. Once in this bonus round, catch all of the meat that is
  200. dropped from the sky. A 1-Up will fall. Do not catch it. Let it
  201. fall and four 1-Ups will appear in its place.

  229. Defeating Kaa the Snake:
  230.  
  231. They made Kaa way too tough for such an early boss. He's worse than
  232. Louie! Here's a drawing of the boss area (use a monospaced font to
  233. display).

  243. Anyway, as soon as you enter the "room" move to the right corner. Kaa
  244. should descend near the right side of the screen. (From point 1. If he's
  245. facing the wrong way don't worry, he'll turn around.) Aim up and pelt
  246. him with bananas. When he fires the hypnotic rays will go off the right
  247. edge of the screen and not return, so hold your position and keep
  248. racking up hits. He'll descend a little further and fire again, and you
  249. might want to be on your guard this time because the rays won't
  250. necessarily go off the screen edge. After this he'll rise back up,
  251. descend once more, and do the same thing. 
  252.  
  253. When he rises the second time quickly move left (Near the hole marked
  254. with a 3), duck, and fire bananas at the hole you were standing on.
  255. (Marked with a 2.) Kaa will rise out of it. As he moves above the branch
  256. (4) you might use some papayas or mangoes on him if you still have any;
  257. they hit much harder. He will stop after he's about an inch above the
  258. branch. Quickly retreat further to the left and jump to avoid the
  259. straight-line beam he fires. Hit him a few times as he retreats into
  260. hole 2. 
  261.  
  262. Next stand on the branch (4) and fire towards the left; he'll be coming
  263. out of hole (3). Once he stops moving jump to avoid another
  264. straight-line beam and resume firing as he retreats.
  265.  
  266. By this time he's probably mad and will whip his tail from hole (3)
  267. while rising out of hole (2), or vice-versa. You'll need to jump onto
  268. the branch (4), hit him as much as you can, and jump when he fires. If
  269. he descends from above, move to the far right and fire upwards as you
  270. did before.
  271.  
  272. Defeating Louie, King of the Apes:
  273.  
  274. You'll have to fight this guy twice. The first time is easy. There will
  275. be three band members on a platform above you. Hit each of them with a
  276. banana and they will start playing. When you have all three going Louie
  277. will start dancing, and you can get free hits on him. You may have to
  278. stop hitting him a couple times to keep the band going.
  279.  
  280. The second time you won't have this advantage, and will have to rely on
  281. reflexes. Just stay as far away from him as possible and hit him with
  282. whatever weapons you have. When he jumps to grab onto the underside of
  283. the platform, you should jump as well, and the coconuts are relatively
  284. easy to jump over. When he charges jump over him, move to the opposite
  285. side of the screen, and continue hitting him.

  421. The bird in Lagoon is easier to defeat (in fact, VERY easy!)
  422. if you know one thing about the way the game works.
  423.  
  424. When your character is JUMPING, he is invincible.  You can
  425. attack while you're jumping.
  426.  
  427. So the way to fight the bird is to stand in a place where the
  428. bird would come by at regular intervals, and when he gets close,
  429. jump and swing the sword as fast as you can.  Repeat.  Heal
  430. when necessary.  Simple.
  431.  
  432. The Bird, however, is *not* the final Boss.
