  4. GSview 1.3 - PostScript previewer.  Needs Ghostscript 3.33.

  7. Overview
  8. ========
  9. PM GSview is a graphical interface for OS/2 Ghostscript.
  10. GSview for Windows is a graphical interface for MS-Windows Ghostscript.
  11. Ghostscript is an interpreter for the PostScript page description language 
  12. used by laser printers.
  13. For documents following the Adobe PostScript Document Structuring 
  14. Conventions, GSview allows selected pages to be viewed or printed.
  15. Ghostscript is required, preferably version 3.33 or later.  
  16.  
  17. Features include:
  18.  - view pages in arbitrary order (Next, Previous, Goto).
  19.  - selectable display resolution.
  20.  - page size is automatically selected from DSC comments.
  21.  - page size can be selected using the menu.
  22.  - orientation is automatically selected from DSC comments.
  23.  - orientation can be selected using the menu (Portrait, Landscape).
  24.  - print selected pages using Ghostscript.
  25.  - extract selected pages to another file.
  26.  - copy display bitmap to clipboard.
  27.  - save clipboard bitmap as BMP file.
  28.  - add bitmap preview to EPS file (Interchange, TIFF or Windows Metafile)
  29.  - graphically select bounding box for EPS file.
  30.  - extract bitmap preview or postscript from DOS EPS file.
  31.  - on-line help.
  32.  - free (GSview Free Public Licence).

  34.  - Works with Ghostscript 3.0 (Level 2 PostScript)

  57. Compilation
  58. ===========
  59. To compile PM GSview you need IBM NMAKE.EXE and EMX/GCC 0.8h
  60. with emxfix05 or later.
  61. To create the PM GSview online help you need the IBM toolkit.
  62. Copy gvpm.mak to Makefile and edit COMPBASE and EMXPATH as required.
  63. Type 'nmake'
  64.  
  65. To compile GSview for Windows you need Borland C++ 3.1 or 4.5.
  66. To compile GSview for Windows Win32s you need Borland C++ 4.5.
  67. Copy gvwin.mak to Makefile then edit COMPBASE and WIN32 as required.

  72. =====
  73. Copy gvpm.exe, gvpm.hlp, gsview.exe, gsview32.exe and gsview.hlp to the 
  74. Ghostscript directory.  
  75. Start GSview then select "Options | Ghostscript Command",
  76. and enter the correct executable path and include path for Ghostscript.
  77. For example "c:\gs\gsos2.exe -Ic:\gs;c:\psfonts"

  79. PM GSview will run under OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 Warp.  
  80. It may run under OS/2 2.0.
  81. PM GSview has been compiled with EMX/GCC 0.9a and requires
  82. the emx 0.9a DLL's.  These are available from
  83.   ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/os2/unix/emx09a/emxrt.zip

  85. GSview for Windows will run under Windows 3.1.
  86. GSview will probably run under Windows 3.0, but you need a special
  87. version of commdlg.dll, shell.dll and winhelp.exe.  This version has never 
  88. been tested with Windows 3.0.  If it works at all consider yourself lucky.

  90. gsview32.exe will work with Ghostscript under Windows 3.1/Win32s, 
  91. Windows NT 3.5 or Windows 95, but may have a few problems with the 
  92. latter two.

  103. When reporting bugs, please include the version number and date of 
  104. GSview (from the Help | About box), the version number of Ghostscript, 
  105. and the exact wording of any error messages.
  106. Do not send me large files unless requested.
  107. If you get a SYS3175 or GPF, please send the address of the GPF - I can 
  108. use this to help locate the bug.
  109. Please distinguish between bugs in GSview and bugs in Ghostscript.
  110. Don't expect a fast response - the work I'm paid to do has a higher
  111. priority.

  130. The GSview Free Public Licence does not require any payment to the author;
  131. however the author would welcome any donations to cover costs and time
  132. involved in developing and maintaining GSview.  These may be sent to

  154. licence in the file PUBLIC.

  156. GSview uses Ghostscript to display the contents of the PostScript
  157. files.  Ghostscript is a separate program from GSview; it is
  158. written and owned by Aladdin Enterprises, not by Russell Lang.

  160. Aladdin Ghostscript comes with a licence that is more restrictive than 
  161. the GNU Licence; in particular, it restricts the distribution of
  162. Aladdin Ghostscript in commercial contexts.  Please see the file PUBLIC
