This copy of GNU texinfo has been compiled with emx+gcc
using the emx 0.9c development tools. It can be used under
OS/2 and Win32.
An up to date copy should always be available as
ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/leo/gnu/doc/gnuinfo.zip
It requires the emx 0.9c or newer runtime under OS/2 and the
RSXNT 1.40 runtime under Win32. Both can be found at
ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/leo/gnu/emx+gcc/...
To install GNU texinfo, copy the executables into a suitable
location and create your INFO file directory. Set the INFOPATH
environment variable. Make sure termcap.dat can be found via
PATH, INIT or TERMCAP environment variables. This file is part
of the emx runtime.
Attention: INFO.EXE uses ANSI emulation to drive screen output.
Unter Win32, this needs to be activated for the executable
containing the C runtime library with the RSXNTOPT command
(see documentation for the RSX runtime). However, since INFO.EXE
is linked dynamically with the C runtime library, the executable
containing the C runtime library is RSXNTCS.DLL. Consequently,
the ANSI emulation needs to be activated in this DLL using the
command "RSXNTOPT -b RSXNTCS.DLL -V". This, of course, enables
ANSI emulation for all executables using this DLL.
This version supports internationalization. To use it, set the
LANGUAGE environment variable (for german messages, set it to "de").
For that to work, you must set the LOCALEDIR environment variable to
point to the base locale directory (default is /lib/locale). Into this
directory, you must copy po/de.gmo (german message catalog, for
example) from the distribution as de/LC_MESSAGES/texinfo.mo and so
on for other languages.
To create printed manuals, the texinfo.tex macro package is used.
You need a TeX implementation for this purpose. I would recommend
emTeX for OS/2 which is not only the *only* widely available TeX
for OS/2 but also one of the best PC TeX versions at all. Texindex
is used to sort the TeX indices.
