  4. This file contains important information for
  5. the successful use of the program. Please
  6. read this file completely before attempting
  7. to run the program.

  24.    1. Requirements to run Sidplay for OS/2
  25.    --------------------------------
  26.       To run sidplay for OS/2 you will need ,
  27.           
  28.           To add the environment variable HVSC_PATH to your
  29.           config.sys if you want to use the STIL View from
  30.           the HV-SIDS Collection.Do this by adding to your
  31.           config.sys the statement:
  32.  
  33.           SET HVSC_PATH=<hvsc-basedir>
  34.           e.g. SET HVSC_PATH=C:\C64MUSIC
  35.  
  36.           To add the location where SIDPLAY.HLP is to the HELP
  37.           environment variable in your config.sys
  38.  
  39.           Either OS/2 Warp 3.0 ,
  40.                  OS/2 Warp Connect 3.0 ,
  41.                  OS/2 Warp 4.0 (Merlin)
  42.  
  43.           to have installed MMPM on your machine.
  44.           To Install the DART DLL's on your machine.
  45.           A fairly decent processor (suggest >= Pentium 100).
  46.           A SoundCard supported by OS/2.
  47.  
  48.       To install MMPM (Multimedia) on your machine go to
  49.       the selective install and follow the menus from there.
  50.  
  51.       To install the DART (Direct Audio RunTime) DLL's ,
  52.       unzip DART.ZIP into a seperate directory and follow
  53.       the instructions from there.
  54.       IMPORTANT: Warp 4.0 Merlin DOES NOT require the
  55.                      DART DLL's to be installed as these are
  56.                      already installed with the base operating
  57.                      system.

  59.        NOTE: You only need to do steps 2 & 3 if you somehow
  60.                destroyed the associations , since the EA's are
  61.                stored in the self extracting file. However go
  62.                through the steps to make sure , especially for
  63.                the Associations since they may not get stored
  64.                in the EA's properly at times.
  65.  
  66.    2. Changing the icon for Sidplay
  67.    --------------------------
  68.       To change the icon for Sidplay perform the following.
  69.  
  70.        Open the properties for SIDPLAY.EXE
  71.        Click on the ICON tab.
  72.        Drag SIDPLAY.ICO to the Current Icon & drop it on top.
  73.        Close the properties notebook.

  75.    3. Associating the Sid files with Sidplay
  76.    ---------------------------------
  77.        To associate the Sid files with Sidplay do the following.

  79.         Open the properties notebook for SIDPLAY.EXE
  80.         Click on the ASSOCIATION tab.
  81.         In the field New Name type *.sid
  82.         Press the Add button.
  83.         Click on the PROGRAM Tab.
  84.         In the Parameters field type %*
  85.         Close the properties notebook.

  87.    4. Running the program
  88.    -------------------
  89.       To run the program do one of the following.
  90.       
  91.       To start the program only , either Double click the SIDPLAY.EXE
  92.       icon or from the command line type SIDPLAY (OS/2 Session).
  93.  
  94.       To start the program with a particular tune already loaded do one
  95.       of the following.
  96.          Double click on one of the Sid tunes.
  97.          Drag one of the Sid Tunes onto the SIDPLAY.EXE ICON.
  98.  
  99.       The bug with the filters is now fixed so you don't have to turn it
  100.       off anymore. ( Not unless you want to )
  101.  
  102.       Now relax and enjoy some sidtunes.

  104.    5. Saving your settings
  105.    -------------------
  106.       The program now allows you to save settings for certain features including:
  107.  
  108.          - Window positions and sizes
  109.          - Default directory for loading tunes
  110.          - Hide or show the ToolBar
  111.  
  112.       On starting the program any settings are loaded from the file SIDPLAY.INI and when
  113.       the program is exited the settings are saved to this file. On first installing the program
  114.       the SIDPLAY.INI file does not exist. It will be created the first time you close the program.
  115.       So you can delete the SIDPLAY.INI file to return to the defaults when the program was first
  116.       installed.

  118.    6. The ToolBar
  119.    ------------
  120.       The newsest addition to the program is the toolbar. This is a small floating window with icons
  121.       that represent certain actions you can perform in sidplay. As you place the mouse pointer over top
  122.       of each of the icons , a small balloon will appear describing the function that icon will perform.
  123.       You can hide the toolbar if you still prefer the old way.

  125.    7. Known Bugs/Problems

  127.       To report bugs see the section "8. How to report defects"

  129.       The Save & Savs As options are not implemented yet.
  130.  
  131.       The Duration of the track does not reset to zero when the track
  132.       finishes & then restarts.

  134.    8. How to report defects
  135.    --------------------
  136.       Before reporting any defects or problems , please ensure that you have
  137.       followed the install instructions carefully , and that you have also read
  138.       the section "4. Running the program" fully.
  139.  
  140.       If all else fails , then you may email me at sidplayos2@yahoo.com with the
  141.       subject as SIDPLAY DEFECT. Please include the operating system version ,
  142.       any fixpacks , your level of MMPM , soundcard , the situation of how you
  143.       produced the problem , and anything else you feel is important.
