1. Requirements to run Sidplay for OS/2
--------------------------------
To run sidplay for OS/2 you will need ,
To add the environment variable HVSC_PATH to your
config.sys if you want to use the STIL View from
the HV-SIDS Collection.Do this by adding to your
config.sys the statement:
SET HVSC_PATH=<hvsc-basedir>
e.g. SET HVSC_PATH=C:\C64MUSIC
To add the location where SIDPLAY.HLP is to the HELP
environment variable in your config.sys
Either OS/2 Warp 3.0 ,
OS/2 Warp Connect 3.0 ,
OS/2 Warp 4.0 (Merlin)
to have installed MMPM on your machine.
To Install the DART DLL's on your machine.
A fairly decent processor (suggest >= Pentium 100).
A SoundCard supported by OS/2.
To install MMPM (Multimedia) on your machine go to
the selective install and follow the menus from there.
To install the DART (Direct Audio RunTime) DLL's ,
unzip DART.ZIP into a seperate directory and follow
the instructions from there.
IMPORTANT: Warp 4.0 Merlin DOES NOT require the
DART DLL's to be installed as these are
already installed with the base operating
system.
NOTE: You only need to do steps 2 & 3 if you somehow
destroyed the associations , since the EA's are
stored in the self extracting file. However go
through the steps to make sure , especially for
the Associations since they may not get stored
in the EA's properly at times.
2. Changing the icon for Sidplay
--------------------------
To change the icon for Sidplay perform the following.
Open the properties for SIDPLAY.EXE
Click on the ICON tab.
Drag SIDPLAY.ICO to the Current Icon & drop it on top.
Close the properties notebook.
3. Associating the Sid files with Sidplay
---------------------------------
To associate the Sid files with Sidplay do the following.
Open the properties notebook for SIDPLAY.EXE
Click on the ASSOCIATION tab.
In the field New Name type *.sid
Press the Add button.
Click on the PROGRAM Tab.
In the Parameters field type %*
Close the properties notebook.
4. Running the program
-------------------
To run the program do one of the following.
To start the program only , either Double click the SIDPLAY.EXE
icon or from the command line type SIDPLAY (OS/2 Session).
To start the program with a particular tune already loaded do one
of the following.
Double click on one of the Sid tunes.
Drag one of the Sid Tunes onto the SIDPLAY.EXE ICON.
The bug with the filters is now fixed so you don't have to turn it
off anymore. ( Not unless you want to )
Now relax and enjoy some sidtunes.
5. Saving your settings
-------------------
The program now allows you to save settings for certain features including:
- Window positions and sizes
- Default directory for loading tunes
- Hide or show the ToolBar
On starting the program any settings are loaded from the file SIDPLAY.INI and when
the program is exited the settings are saved to this file. On first installing the program
the SIDPLAY.INI file does not exist. It will be created the first time you close the program.
So you can delete the SIDPLAY.INI file to return to the defaults when the program was first
installed.
6. The ToolBar
------------
The newsest addition to the program is the toolbar. This is a small floating window with icons
that represent certain actions you can perform in sidplay. As you place the mouse pointer over top
of each of the icons , a small balloon will appear describing the function that icon will perform.
You can hide the toolbar if you still prefer the old way.
7. Known Bugs/Problems
--------------------
To report bugs see the section "8. How to report defects"
The Save & Savs As options are not implemented yet.
The Duration of the track does not reset to zero when the track
finishes & then restarts.
8. How to report defects
--------------------
Before reporting any defects or problems , please ensure that you have
followed the install instructions carefully , and that you have also read
the section "4. Running the program" fully.
If all else fails , then you may email me at sidplayos2@yahoo.com with the
subject as SIDPLAY DEFECT. Please include the operating system version ,
any fixpacks , your level of MMPM , soundcard , the situation of how you
produced the problem , and anything else you feel is important.
