  43. Last year a friend of mine upgraded GirlFriend 1.0 to 
  44. Wife 1.0 and found that it's a memory hog leaving very 
  45. little system resources for other applications. He is 
  46. only now noticing that Wife 1.0 also is spawning 
  47. Child-Processes which are further consuming valuable
  48. resources. No mention of this particular phenomena was 
  49. included in the product brochure or the documentation, 
  50. though other users have informed him that this is to be 
  51. expected due to the nature of the application. Not only 
  52. that, Wife 1.0 installs itself such that it is always 
  53. launched at system initialization where it can monitor 
  54. all other system activity. He's finding that some 
  55. applications such as PokerNight 10.3, BeerBash 2.5, and 
  56. PubNight 7.0 are no longer able to run in the system at 
  57. all, crashing the system when selected (even though they 
  58. always worked fine before). At installation, Wife 1.0
  59. provides no option as to the installation of undesired 
  60. Plug-Ins such as MotherlnLaw 55.8 and BrotherlnLaw Beta 
  61. release. Also, system performance seems to diminish with
  62. each passing day.

  64. Some features he'd like to see in the upcoming Wife 2.0.
  65. -  A "Don't remind me again" button
  66. -  Minimize button
  67. -  An install shield feature that allows Wife 2.0 be 
  68.    installed with the option to uninstall at any time 
  69.    without the loss of cache and other system resources.
  70. -  An option to run the network driver in promiscuous 
  71.    mode which would allow the systems hardware probe 
  72.    feature to be much more useful.

  74. I myself decided to avoid all of the headaches 
  75. associated with Wife 1.0 by sticking with GirlFriend 2.0.
  76. Even here, however, I found many problems. Apparently 
  77. you cannot install GirlFriend 2.0 on top of GirlFriend 
  78. 1.0. You must uninstall GirlFriend 1.0 first. Other 
  79. users say this is a long standing bug which I should 
  80. have been aware of. Apparently the versions of 
  81. GirlFriend have conflicts over shared use of the I/O 
  82. port.  You think they would have fixed such a stupid 
  83. bug by now. To make matters worse, the uninstall program
  84. for GirlFriend 1.0 doesn't work very well leaving 
  85. undesirable traces of the application in the system. 
  86. Another thing that sucks -- all versions of GirlFriend
  87. continually pop up little annoying messages about the 
  88. advantages of upgrading to Wife 1.0

  92. Wife 1.0 has an undocumented bug. If you try to install 
  93. Mistress 1.1 before uninstalling Wife 1.0, Wife 1.0 
  94. will delete MSMoney files before doing the uninstall 
  95. itself. Then Mistress 1.1 will refuse to install, 
  96. claiming insufficient resources.
