KERMIT 95 PATCHES
History:
Patch 1: November 6, 1995.
Patch 2: December 18, 1995.
Patch 3: February 22, 1996.
Patch 4: March 7, 1996.
Patch 5: July 3, 1996.
Patch 6: July 16, 1996.
Patch 7: July 24, 1996.
PATCH NUMBER 7 FOR KERMIT 95, JULY 24, 1996.
This patch can be applied to any previous release of Kermit 95.
NOTE: If you are patching from version 1.1.5 to version 1.1.7,
BE SURE that your version of 1.1.5 is dated July 3, 1996, and NOT
July 2, 1996. If it has the wrong date, please reinstall from your
original diskettes and patch the original version.
Patch files for version 1.1.7 are self-unpacking archives. You only need
to get one file to apply the patch.
1. The patch program is a DOS program. Make sure that the directory you
put the patch into conforms to DOS naming restrictions: its name must
not be more than 8 characters long, and must not contain spaces.
2. Transfer the appropriate patch file in binary mode from our ftp area
or BBS to your Kermit 95 directory:
wx11v-7.exe
where "x" is your hardward type: "I" for Intel (80x86 or Pentium PC),
"A" for DEC Alpha, or "P" for PowerPC. And "v" is the last digit of
the version you are upgrading FROM. For example:
wi113-7.exe
for those upgrading from version 1.1.3 to 1.1.7 on Intel PCs, or:
wa116-7.exe
for those upgrading from version 1.1.6 to 1.1.7 on the DEC Alpha.
3. Open a DOS window and CD to your Kermit 95 directory. Unpack the
self-unpacking archive file by typing its name (the part before
the "."), for example:
wi114-7
(or "wi115-7", or "wa116-7", etc). This should make four files,
named PATCH.DOC (this file), PATCH.EXE, Wx11v-7.RTD, and Wx11v-7.RTP.
4. While still CD'd to your Kermit-95 directory, type the following
command at the command prompt in a DOS window (assuming you are
patching the Intel version from verion 1.1.6 to 1.1.7):
patch wi116-7
If you are patching the Alpha version, type:
patch wa116-7
If you are patching the PowerPC version, type:
patch wp116-7
5. Check afterwards that your K95DIAL.EXE and K95.EXE files both
announce themselves as version 1.1.7 and that they operate correctly,
and that both are still registered to you.
Your previous version is saved for you in the BACKUP directory that the PATH
program creates in your Kermit 95 directory. After the patch operation, you
can delete the Wx11v-7.* patch files and PATCH.EXE. After a few days of
successful operation, you can also "deltree" the BACKUP directory.
NOTE: Any file that you have changed will not be patched. So, for example,
if you have changed the DIALINF.DAT file (the original dialer database), it
will not receive any patches. K95CUSTOM.INI is never patched since it is
not part of the software distribution, but is created for you by the SETUP
program.
ANOTHER NOTE: Some users have reported problems applying patches to version
1.1.3. If you have any other version, earlier or later, try applying the
appropriate patch to that version. If you do not, and you can not
successfully patch version 1.1.3, contact the Kermit Project for assistance.
Report any problems or send questions to kermit-support@columbia.edu.
