Glass vessels became more common in Bergen at the turn of the 15th century. Plenty of glasses were imported to the town, especially Maigelein and Krautstr├╝nke made in the eastern parts of Germany, but also the occasional glass vessels from western and southern Germany (including a green ribbed beaker) which have not been found elsewhere in Northern Europe. The large number of Germans living in Bergen probably explains the fact that the finds include rare curiosities, such as a boot glass, 16th-century goblets and carafes richly decorated with glass threads. The excavations of the townΓÇÖs wine cellar have yielded especially copious amounts of wine and beer glasses from the 16th and 17th century.
