The Hansa dominated trade in Northern Europe, and glass vessels were distributed to the North especially via L├╝beck. Some glasses produced in western Germany were imported to the towns of the Baltic area. However, the use of glass probably lessened when the trade of the Teutonic Order started to decline after their defeat in the battle of Tannenberg. In western Scandinavia the use of glass vessels increased instead. Krautstr├╝nke, Maigelein and other glasses were imported to Norway from the Rhineland and the Netherlands. Tall club-shaped beakers were also popular, and they are depicted in many wall paintings of Danish churches.
