In the great tower of Benares, there is a brass plate on which 3 diamond shafts are are fixed. On the shafts are mounted 64 golden disks, all of different sizes. At the time of creation, the god Brahma placed all the disks on one shaft, in order of size with the largest on the bottom.
It was the task of the Hindu priests to unceasingly transfer the disks from one peg to another, one peg at a time, never placing a larger disk on a smaller one. When all the disks have been transferred to a second shaft, the universe will end.
According to this legend, the priests would have ( 2 to the 64th power - 1 ) moves to complete to end their task. If they had made one move every second, it would have taken nearly six billion centuries.
