  6. System Requirements:

  8. This program requires an IBM PC or compatible with at least VGA.
  9. In general, faster systems will run the program more efficiently.

  12. Primary Controls:

  14. Use arrow keys for side-to-side movement.
  15. ALT - fires the retro rockets/operates mothership door
  16. CTRL (or UP) - fires your weapon (only during ASCENT, no other time!)

  21. [P] - Pause game
  22. [J] - toggle joystick on/off
  23. [Ctrl-J] - calibrate joystick
  24. [F1] - Review this file (HELP)

  27. [F9] - Shell out to Dos (return with EXIT command from Dos)
  28. [F10] - Quit game, go to menu
  29. [ESC] - Quit game, go to DOS

  34. The following keys may also be used.  They are active all the
  35. time:

  37.  K and L - same as Left/Right cursor keys above
  38.  Semicolon (;) - same as ALT above
  39.  Apostrophe (') - same as CTRL above

  42. Joystick Controls:
  43. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  44. When the joystick is enabled (see above) the keyboard also
  45. functions as a backup, allowing you to control different
  46. parts of the game with either the joystick or the keyboard.

  48. To initiate a drop sequence with the joystick, either press
  49. Button 2 or pull DOWN on the joystick.
  50.  
  51. To slow your freefall descent either press (and hold) Button 2
  52. or push UP on the joystick.
  53.  
  54. To rise faster either press (and hold) Button 2 or push UP
  55. on the joystick.

  57. On the way up Button 1 fires your weapon.

  60. Game Notes:
  61. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  62. Descend to the surface in a controlled fashion and land on one of
  63. the available landing pads.  Smaller pads earn more points.  You
  64. MUST use retro rockets to touch down.  Make sure that you are going
  65. slow enough that landing gear is extended.  Landing gear retracts
  66. automatically when you are going too fast to land safely.

  68. Astronaut will beam aboard your ship.  Fly back up to waiting
  69. mothership.  On the way up, you may blast away at the meteors to
  70. clear your path and earn extra points.
  71.  
  72. Dock precisely with the mothership and then turn around and go get
  73. the rest of the astronauts.
  74.  
  75. The longer and better you play, the better your ship's firepower,
  76. which enables you to clear more meteors away, making your mission
  77. a little more entertaining.
  78.  
  79. With each successful rescue, more meteors enter the atmosphere and
  80. attempt to thwart your rescue efforts.  How long can you keep
  81. rescuing the astronauts?

  94. points you will receive.
