BAE SYSTEMS is now looking forward to the RN Submarine Centenary being celebrated nationally during 2001. Everyone in Barrow and Walney and the surrounding towns and villages can take justifiable pride in the achievements and unique contributions that the town's major product has made to the Royal Navy Submarine Service and to the continuing defence of our Queen and country.
From 1872 up to the end of Year 2000, Barrow shipyard has also built 518 surface ships of just about every type imaginable........but that's another story.
