Marine's shipyard at Govan, Glasgow is an experienced commercial shipbuilding yard that was acquired in 1999. They have since secured several new orders.
Under the proposed modernisation programme, a steelwork Centre of Excellence would be created at the shipyard.
Govan also has modern naval vessel experience, having built the hull of the Royal Navy's Amphibious Helicopter Carrier Type LPH under subcontract to Barrow prior to becoming a BAE SYSTEMS yard. The LPH was completed at Barrow in 1998.
The first vessel built at Govan under BAE SYSTEMS ownership is the Auxiliary Oiler 'Wave Ruler' which was launched on February 9th 2001.
