Marine's shipyard at Scotstoun, Glasgow is the UK's frigate building specialist and lead yard for the first of a new class of destroyers for the Royal Navy. They are also the country's most successful export shipbuilding yard.
The shipyard now boasts a covered dry dock facility - one of only two such facilities in the UK. Under the proposed modernisation of Marine's yards, Scotstoun would become a major outfitting yard in addition to its Type 45 and export ship build involvements.
Scotstoun was lead yard for the Type 23 Frigate programme and has built 12 of these vessels for the Royal Navy, the last of which is outfitting at Scotstoun in 2001.
