  1. The Royal Navy's next generation Astute Class nuclear fleet submarines are now being built at Barrow.  The keel of the first of class submarine 'Astute' was officially laid on January 31st 2001.  Orders for a further two boats are in hand and three further Astute Class may be ordered in 2002.

  3. Wave Knight, the first of two Auxiliary Oilers for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) was launched at Barrow in September 2000.  Fully laden they will displace 31500 tonnes.
