  8. 95/NT.(Command Line Interface) THIS VERSION IS NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION!

  10. There are four different Win32 versions of PKZIP available. The
  11. distribution file names and the platforms they run on are listed
  12. below:

  15. pkzclab2.exe (DEC Alpha Based Platforms)
  16. pkzclpb2.exe (PowerPC Based Platforms)
  17. pkzcxb2r.exe (Intel Based Platforms, registered version)

  36.   This is the installation file for the beta version of
  37.   PKZIP for Windows 95/NT.

  39.   The following files will be installed on your system:

  41.   evalform.txt    A Beta Tester Feedback Report form for 
  42.                   providing feedback on your evaluation
  43.                   of this beta product.

  45.   old2new.txt     A list of the PKZIP/PKUNZIP for DOS Version 2.04g
  46.                   options and the equivalent PKZIP for Windows NT/95
  47.                   commands and options.

  49.   pkzip.exe       PKZIP for Windows 95/NT Beta Version 0.91.

  80. Complete these steps to install the files contained in pkzwin32.exe
  81. -------------------------------------------------------------------

  83. 1. Create a directory into which you plan to install the software. 
  84.    Type the following:
  85.  
  86.    mkdir pkware
  87.  
  88. 2. Copy the appropriate distribution file into the pkware directory.
  89.    (The directory you created in step one)
  90.  
  91. 3. Change to the pkware directory. Type the following:
  92.  
  93.    cd pkware
  94.  
  95. 4. Run the distribtion file. This is a self-extracting .ZIP file that
  96.    will run on Windows 95/NT. Running the program will automatically
  97.    extract the installation files into your current directory.
  98.    For example if you were installing the Intel version of PKZIP, you
  99.    would type the following at the command prompt:

  101.    pkzclxb2.exe -password=XXX
  102.  
  103.    where "XXX" is a password that has been provided to you by PKWARE.

  106. Additional information on using PKZIP for Windows 95/NT
  107. ------------------------------------------------------------------
  108. 1. What is a self-extracting file?
  109.  
  110.    A self-extracting file (PKSFX) is a .ZIP file that includes 
  111.    the extraction engine as part of the compressed file data.  
  112.    This allows the person extracting the compressed files
  113.    to simply run the PKSFX file as if it were a regular 
  114.    program. PKZIP for Windows 95/NT includes native a self-extracting
  115.    engine so that PKSFX files can be created and extracted on 
  116.    Windows 95/NT.

  118. 2. What is PKZFIND.EXE?
  119.  
  120.    PKWARE's handy file-finding utility.  PKZFIND File Finder 
  121.    Plus works like other "where-is" type programs, with an important
  122.    PLUS. The Plus is that PKZFIND will not only search all directories
  123.    on diskette or hard disk like other "where-is" programs, but it will
  124.    search through .ZIP files created by PKZIP as well. Once PKZFIND
  125.    finds the desired file, PKZFIND can automatically change to the
  126.    subdirectory where the file is found! PKZFIND will allow you to
  127.    find any file, ZIPPED or not, simply and easily.

  129. 3. How do I access help?
  130.  
  131.    Online help is accessible from the command line by typing the
  132.    following:
  133.  
  134.    pkzip -help
  135.  
  136.    A screen with usage information followed by a menu screen with
  137.    the available commands and options will appear. Enter a command or
  138.    option for additional help. The pkzip.html file included with this
  139.    beta release also includes information on available commands and
  140.    options.

  142. 4. Information about setting PKZIP.EXE in the path:
  143.   
  144.    If you would like to be able to access PKZIP from any directory,
  145.    without typing a path, you will need to specify the PKZIP 
  146.    install (destination) directory in your path. The path specification
  147.    is typically found in the your autoexec.bat file. See your Windows
  148.    documentation for information on adding files to the search path.
