  54. D        CDP that is in a 1980 UA and is not a central city.  These
  55.            CDPs must have a 1990 population of at least 300 in Hawaii
  56.            and the outlying areas (also see code J), and 2,500 elsewhere to
  57.            qualify for publication.
  58.  
  59. E        CDP not classified elsewhere.  These CDPs must meet the
  60.            following minimum population requirements to qualify for
  61.            publication:  300 in Hawaii, the Virgin Islands of the United
  62.            States, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands; 25 in
  63.            Alaska; 1000 in all other states and statistical equivalents
  64.  
  65. F        Zona urbana that is the central city of a UA in Puerto Rico, but
  66.           not of an MSA/PMSA/CMSA
  67.  
  68. G       Zona urbana that is the central city of an MSA/PMSA/CMSA in
  69.           Puerto Rico, but not of a UA

  71. H       Zona urbana that is the central city of an MSA/PMSA/CMSA

  84. L       CDP entirely within an American Indian reservation and
  85.           entirely outside of a 1980 urbanized area.  These CDPs must
  86.           have a 1990 population of at least 25 in Alaska and 250
  87.           elsewhere to qualify for publication.

  89. M      Dropped CDP; CDP originally classified with a place
  90.          description code of D that did not meet the minimum
  91.          population criteria for publication

  93. N      Dropped CDP; CDP originally classified with a place
  94.          description code of E that did not meet the minimum

  97. P       Dropped CDP; CDP originally classified with a place
  98.          description code of L that did not meet the minimum

  100.  
  101. 1/      Places recognized as the central cities of  metropolitan statistical areas 
  102.          include:
  103.  
  104. A.     The place with the largest population in the metropolitan area.
  105.  
  106. B.      Each additional city with a population of at least 250,000 or with at 
  107.           least 100,000 persons working within its limits.
  108.  
  109. C.      Each additional city with a population of at least 25,000, an 
  110.          employment/ residence ratio of at least 0.75, and out commuting of 
  111.          fewer than 60 percent of its resident employed workers.
  112.  
  113. D.     Each city of 15,000 to 25,000 population that is at least one-third as 
  114.          large as the largest central city, has an employment/residence ratio of 
  115.          at least 0.75, and has out commuting of fewer than 60 percent of its 
  116.         resident employed workers.

  118. 2/      The central places of 1990 urbanized areas include:
  119.  
  120. A.     All the central cities included in the UA of a metropolitan area.
  121.  
  122. B.      If no central cities of a metropolitan area are in the UA, the largest 
  123.           incorporated place of at least 2,500 population and up to two additional 
  124.           incorporated places of a least 15,000 population at least 1/3 the size of 
  125.          the largest incorporated place.
  126.  
  127. C.     If no incorporated place of at least 2,500 population is in the UA, the 
  128.          largest non-military census designated place.
  129.  
  130. 3/      Must meet the criteria for both metropolitan area central cities and 
  131.          urbanized area central places.
