  20. |       When you register, you will receive a disk (specify format, 3 1/2"   |
  21. |       or 5 1/4") with the latest version. This entitles you to phone       |
  22. |       and mail support. Plus you receive update notices and bug            |
  23. |       reports. The serialized disk will not be copy protected, but         |
  24. |       it will be for your own personal use (and is not to be               |
  25. |       distributed to others).                                              |

  31. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  32.  
  33. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  34. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  35. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  36. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  37. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  38. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  39. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  41. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  42. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  43. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  44. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  45. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  46. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  47. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  48. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  49. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  50. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  51. Shareware.

  53. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  54. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  55. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  56. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  58. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  59. product, you don't pay for it.

  63. Users of PixFolio must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
  64. "PixFolio is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  65. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
  66. the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
  67. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
  68. quential, which may result from the use of PixFolio."

  70. PixFolio is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  71. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  72. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  73. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  74. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  75. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to

  79. useful and find that you are using PixFolio and continue to use
  80. PixFolio after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  81. istration payment of $25.00 to Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software).

  83. one computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just
  84. like a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  85. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  86. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  87. being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  88. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  89. same time.

  91. Commercial users of PixFolio must register and pay for their
  92. copies of PixFolio within 30 days of first use or their license
  93. is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
  94. tacting Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software).

  96. Anyone distributing PixFolio for any kind of remuneration must
  97. first contact Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software) at the address above
  98. for authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
  99. to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines
  100. for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
  101. PixFolio immediately (However Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software) must
  102. still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with
  103. the latest version of PixFolio.).

  105. You are encouraged to pass a copy of PixFolio along to your
  106. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their
  107. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users
  108. will receive a copy of the latest version of the PixFolio
