  27.  WinCheck is the finest Windows 3.0 based personal finance manager
  28.  there is.  It can help you keep track of various sorts of checking,
  29.  savings, credit card and cash accounts.  It helps you balance your
  30.  checkbook and figure out how much money you really have.
  31.  
  32.  WinCheck can print checks (most any checks that can fit in your computer
  33.  and are pre-printed with your account number.  To order computer checks
  34.  call "Financial Registers" at the number below and they will assist you.)

  37.  WinCheck can also print are wide variety of pre-designed or custom
  38.  reports.  The WinCheck report generator allows you to design reports

  43.  detail on many operations and gives various examples.

  67.  Evaluation copies of WinCheck are 100% fully functional.  The sole
  68.  limitation you may find is that the evaluation copies are unable to
  69.  import data generated by previous versions of the WinCheck program.

  72.  that pops up whenever you start the program.  Thats it!

  98.       *** FOR WINCHECK <= 2.2A USERS ***
  99.  
  100.   If you are using WinCheck Version 2.2A or lesser, converting
  101.   to WinCheck 3.0 data is easy!  Just open the account in
  102.   WinCheck 3.0.  WinCheck will ask you for starting Balances.
  103.   Leave all values at 0.00.  The account will be named "Previous
  104.   Version".  Type in your own personal description of the account
  105.   (i.e. "My Personal Savings").  When prompted for a checkbook,
  106.   just press OK.  Basically, accepting the default values will
  107.   convert your account perfectly!
  108.  
  109.   Evaluation copies of WinCheck cannot convert data files from
  110.   previous versions of WinCheck.
  111.  
  112.  
  113.        *** HOW TO INSTALL WINCHECK ***
  114.  
  115.  This installation assumes that you either have an ZIP file that you
  116.  just unzipped that contains WinCheck, or that you are looking at one
  117.  of our evaluation diskettes.  In any case, installation is simple:
  118.  
  119.     1) Create a new directory to hold both the WinCheck program and the
  120.        WinCheck files. (Both the WinCheck program and the WinCheck files
  121.        MUST reside in the same directory.)  For instance, the new directroy
  122.        might be:
  123.     
  124.        C:\WINCHECK
  125.  
  126.     2) Copy all the files from the installation diskette or the unzip
  127.        directory to the directory you just created.
  128.  
  129.     3) Run the WCMAKE.EXE program.  It will create all the files required.
  130.  
  131.     4) Start Windows (if you are not already doing all this from Windows)
  132.  
  133.     5) Create a Program Manager icon for WINCHECK.EXE and possibly also
  134.        for QUICK34.EXE if you wish to import Quicken data.
  135.  
  136.  
  137.           *** PRINTING PROBLEMS? ***
  138.  
  139.     Most printer drivers have special features that take added
  140.     advantage of the Windows 3.0 environment.  WinCheck assumes
  141.     that you have one of these drivers installed.  Some older
  142.     printer drivers, and current versions of some font packages
  143.     (Bitstream Facelift) do not support these features. 
  144.  
  145.     If WinCheck does not print properly on your system, add the
  146.     following line to the [WiChk14a] section of your WIN.INI file:
  147.  
  148.     NODEVMODE=1
  149.  
  150.     This line will cause WinCheck to bypass the special printer
  151.     driver features that cause the problems.  Note:  You will not
  152.     be able to print landscape checks if you use the NODEVMODE=1
  153.     option.
  154.  
  155.  
  156.  
  157.      *** CONVERTING DATA FROM QUICKEN AND OTHER PRODUCTS ***
  158.        Quicken is a registered trademark of the Intuit.
  159.  
  160.            WinCheck can convert data from any software package that
  161.            can export data in the Quicken QIF format.  Quicken and
  162.            several other software packages can output data in the
  163.            Quicken QIF format.
  164.  
  165.        WinCheck can import data through the WinCheck Control
  166.        Language.  This language is discussed in Section 16.
  167.        Quicken versions 3.0 and 4.0 can export data in the
  168.        Quicken Interchange Format (QIF).  QIF is a plain text
  169.        file that has standard tags, and this is the format
  170.        required for the Converter.  Please refer to your Quicken
  171.        (or other software) Manual for the QIF description.
  172.  
  173.        The WinCheck Quicken Converter is a separate application
  174.        that will generate a WinCheck control file from the QIF
  175.        file.  Here is an example of how to convert your 1991 data
  176.        from Quicken to WinCheck:
  177.  
  178.          1.  Run Quicken.  Load in your 1991 data.  Note your
  179.          starting balances.
  180.          2.  From Quicken, choose "Export" from the menu.
  181.  
  182.          3.  For this example, let's call the export file
  183.          EXP1991.EXP.
  184.          4.  Once you have exported this file, exit Quicken.
  185.          5.  Enter Windows, and double click on the WinCheck
  186.          Converter icon.  Or, choose Run from the File menu
  187.          and specify QUICK34.EXE.
  188.          6.  You will see an empty Window, with a convert menu.
  189.          Choose From Quicken Version 3 or 4 from the Convert
  190.          menu.
  191.  
  192.          7.  A dialog box asking for the Quicken Exported filename
  193.          will appear.  Use this dialog to find the file
  194.          EXP1991.EXP.  Indicate in this dialog if the account
  195.          to convert is a Checking account, a Savings account,
  196.          or a Credit account.
  197.          8.  Once you have located this file, press the Convert
  198.          button.
  199.          9.  An hourglass will appear.  The WinCheck Converter is
  200.          busy converting yur data.
  201.          After a while (5-60 seconds, depending on your data),
  202.          the Converter will display a message stating that the
  203.          conversion is complete.  The file Q34CONV.WCB has
  204.          been created.
  205.  
  206.          10. Close the WinCheck Converter.
  207.          11. Run WinCheck.
  208.          12. Specify a new account.  For example, we will use Y91.
  209.          13. Specify a Checking/Cash account, Checking/Savings
  210.          account, or a Credit Card account.
  211.  
  212.          14. IMPORTANT:  Change the Starting Date field in the
  213.          Account Info dialog to 1/91  (for this example).
  214.          15. Fill in the description of the account with anything
  215.          you want.
  216.          16. Fill in the starting balances.
  217.          17. Press the OK button.
  218.          18. Define a checkbook or press OK.
  219.  
  220.          19. Note that your starting balances are for the start of
  221.          the year.  Now it is time to import in the data.
  222.          20. Choose Run/Edit WinCheck Command File from the Acct
  223.          menu.
  224.          21. Use the dialog to locate Q34CONV.WCB .
  225.          This conversion process will take a long time.
  226.          Typical conversion times run from 1 minute to 30
  227.          minutes, depending on the speed of your computer and
  228.          the amount of data to convert.  Make sure you have
  229.          the time available.
  230.  
  231.          22. Press the Run button.
  232.          23. Once the conversion is complete, the register will
  233.          display your converted data and your current balance.
  234.  
  235.       Conversion Issues:
  236.  
  237.        Quicken uses Categories:Subcategories/Classes.  WinCheck
  238.        uses only Categories and Subcategories.  WinCheck will
  239.        combine the Class and category into one category.  For
  240.        example, "Utility:Electric/PERSONAL" will be changed to
  241.        "PERSONAL/Utility:Electric".  "PERSONAL/Utility" is the
  242.        category, and "Electric" is the subcategory.
  243.  
  244.        Quicken's export files do not specify the type of
  245.        transaction.  WinCheck will do the best that it can to
  246.        convert your transactions to the same type (i.e. Checks to
  247.        Checks).  If WinCheck finds a transaction of an unknown
  248.        type,  it will create a Misc transaction.  This will
  249.        accurately track your dollar amount.
  250.        WinCheck will not convert investments from Quicken 4.0.

  359.  WinCheck is not and has never been public domain
  360.  software, nor is it free software.
  361.  
  362.  Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use
  363.  WinCheck on a 21-day trial basis for the purpose of
  364.  determining whether WinCheck is suitable for their
  365.  needs.  The use of WinCheck, except for the initial
  366.  21-day trial, requires registration.  The use of
  367.  unlicensed copies of WinCheck, outside of the initial
  368.  21-day trial, by any person, business, corporation, 
  369.  government agency or any other entity is strictly prohibited.

  371.  A single user license permits a user to use WinCheck
