  10. WHISKERS SHAREWARE NOTICE:
  11. Version 2.6a

  13. Whiskers is being distributed in the shareware market, you are free to 
  14. make copies to pass along to others who might find Whiskers useful.  All 
  15. files (Invoice.txt, Whiskers.dll, Whiskers.exe, Whiskers.txt, WhiskPro
  16. .wri and W-header.txt) must be distributed together.  W-header.txt is a 
  17. short descriptive for text file.  Please use this text for the description
  18. when uploading Whiskers 2.6a to other BBS's.
  19.  
  20. If you find that you like Whiskers and find it useful in your work, you 
  21. are expected to pay a registration fee of $15.00 per copy.  An invoice 
  22. named INVOICE.TXT is included for your convenience.  Checks, Mastercard 
  23. and Visa are accepted for payment.  Open the Invoice.txt file with Note-
  24. pad, select File menu, Page Setup command and set all margins to 0. Then
  25. select File menu, Print command to print the invoice.

  27. When your registration fee is received, a registration number and a paid 
  28. in full invoice will be sent to you.  When you receive your registration 
  29. number it is very important that you enter your registration number ex-
  30. actly as it appears on your invoice.  Technical support and site licenses

  33. The file named WhiskPro.wri that is included with this copy of Whiskers
  34. is a description of the Whiskers(tm) Professional commercial software 
  35. product.  Please read this file to learn about the additional features 
  36. and flexibility that Whiskers(tm) Professional has to offer.

  38. WHISKERS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  39.  
  40. To install Whiskers, copy all of the files to the directory you want 
  41. Whiskers to be in.  Then use the File Manager or Program Manager to start
  42. Whiskers, using the Whiskers.exe file.  Whiskers.exe uses another file 
  43. (included with Whiskers) named Whiskers.dll.  The Whiskers.dll is a  
  44. Dynamic Linked Library.  Be sure to keep the Whiskers.exe and Whiskers.dll
  45. in the same directory. If you have an older version of Whiskers that used
  46. a file named Rodent.exe, please delete the Rodent.exe file.  Whiskers
  47. no longer needs it.
  48.  
  49. To run Whiskers, double click on its icon in the Program Manager or the 
  50. Whiskers.exe file in the File Manager.  Another Whiskers icon will appear 
  51. at the botton of your screen.  At this point the Whiskers icon will have 
  52. bars showing and Whiskers is running.  The bars indicate that the mouse 
  53. button clicks are being captured and processed as the default settings.  
  54. To view or change the default settings, see the "Programming the Mouse 
  55. Buttons" section below.

  57. Whiskers requires a minimum of 18K of memory to run.  When using either
  58. hideit option the minimum memory required to run Whiskers is 7K.
  59.  
  60. LOAD LINE:
  61.  
  62. You can put Whiskers on the load line of the WIN.INI file.  Making a 
  63. Whiskers entry on the load line will run Whiskers when Windows is first
  64. started.  It is recommended that you make the Whiskers entry on the LOAD 
  65. line and not the run line.
  66.  
  67. HIDEIT FEATURE:
  68.  
  69. Whiskers has a "Hide Whiskers" checkbox in the buttons dialog box and a 
  70. "Hide Whiskers" command on the menu.  These options allows you to hide the 
  71. Whiskers icon.  This reduces screen clutter.  
  72.  
  73. The "Hide Whiskers" command on the menu will hide the Whiskers icon im-
  74. mediately, but will only stay in affect for the present Windows session.  
  75.  
  76. The "Hide Whiskers" checkbox in the buttons dialog box requires that a 
  77. Whiskers entry is on the LOAD line of the WIN.INI file.  This option is 
  78. permanent until the checkbox is unselected.  With this option when Windows
  79. is started, the Whiskers icon will be hidden automatically.

  81. When using the "Hide Whiskers" menu command, if you find that you need to
  82. change a button setting or edit the Exclusion List, start Whiskers by 
  83. double clicking the icon in the Program Manager and the Whiskers icon will
  84. appear at the bottom of the screen.  Any editing can now be done.
  85.  
  86. When using the "Hide Whiskers" checkbox option, if you find that you need 
  87. to change a button setting or edit the Exclusion List, you must delete the
  88. line in the WIN.INI file in the [Whiskers] section that reads hideit=on,
  89. then start Whiskers again by  double clicking the icon in the Program 
  90. Manager and the Whiskers icon will appear at the bottom of the screen. 
  91. Any editing can now be done.
  92.  
  93. When either of the "Hide Whiskers" options are selected the memory required
  94. to run Whiskers drops to approximately 7K.
  95.  
  96. PROGRAMMING THE MOUSE BUTTONS:
  97. 2 and 3 Button Mice
  98.  
  99. Click once on the Whiskers icon at the bottom of your screen and the sy-
  100. stem menu will pop up.  Select the Buttons... command and a dialog box 
  101. titled "Whisker's Mouse College" will appear.  The Right and Middle button 
  102. key combinations have been programmed with default key values.  You may 
  103. change any of these defaults that you wish.  For example, to program the 
  104. Right button to be the DELETE key, turn the checkbox on, then click on the 
  105. down arrow of the listbox that is in the "no shifts" row and in the Right
  106. button column.  Scroll the listbox until you find the DELETE entry and
  107. then select it.  Now press the OK button.  
  108.  
  109. To program the Shift+Right button combination, follow the same steps as
  110. above, but make your selection in the listbox in the "shift" row and right
  111. button column.  Follow these steps for programming each of the combina-
  112. tions.  Repeat these steps for programming the Middle button on a three 
  113. (3) button mouse.
  114.  
  115. PASS SHIFT STATES:
  116.  
  117. By default the Pass Shift States checkboxes are unselected.  An example of 
  118. passing or not passing the Shift States is as follows:
  119.  
  120. The Shift+Right button combination has the assignment of PASTE from the 
  121. listbox and the Shift State checkbox is unselected.  When the Shift key
  122. and the right mouse button are pressed together, the Paste command will 
  123. be executed.  Now with the Shift State checkbox selected, and the Shift+
  124. Right button combination has the assignment of the Insert key, when the
  125. Shift key and the right mouse button are pressed together, the Paste
  126. command will be executed also.

  128. When the Pass Shift States is selected, the Shift key message is actually
  129. passed on the the active application to be processed.  When the Pass Shift
  130. States is unselected, the Shift key is used to give Whiskers another key
  131. combination, the Shift message IS NOT passed to the active application.

  133. SHIFT LEFT BUTTON & LEFT DOUBLE CLICK
  134.  
  135. If you want to use either the Shift Left Button or the Shift Left Double 
  136. Click selections, it is recommended that you program these selections on 
  137. the shift line of either button and select the pass Shift States checkbox.  
  138. Otherwise erratic results may occur depending on the applications that 
  139. you are working with.

  142. LOGITECH MICE:
  143.  
  144. If you have a Logitech Bus Mouse you will need to call Logitech Tech 
  145. Support at 415-795-8100 to get a new lmouse.drv file.  This new lmouse.drv
  146. file will support the middle button of your mouse.
  147.  
  148. MIDDLE BUTTON SIMULATION:
  149.  
  150. To turn on the Middle button simulation, click on the Whiskers icon at the 
  151. bottom of the screen and then select the buttons command.  In the buttons
  152. dialog box select the Middle Button Simulation checkbox and then press the
  153. OK button.  This checkbox will enable the middle button simulation.  
  154.  
  155. Whiskers can simulate a Middle button on a two (2) button mouse.  To do 
  156. the middle button simulation press and hold down the right mouse button 
  157. and then QUICKLY click the left mouse button.  The left button will ac-
  158. tivate whatever key you have assigned to the "no shift middle button".  If 
  159. you find that the click rate is too fast or too slow for you, the click 
  160. rate can be changed in the Control Panel, Mouse section, Double Click Rate.
  161. To do the other middle button key combinations, press and hold down the 
  162. right button and any of the shift keys and then click the left button.  
  163. When you let up on the right button, the mouse will revert back to its 
  164. normal state.  To program the simulated Middle button, just follow the steps 
  165. for programming the middle button of a three (3) button mouse.
  166.  
  167. The Shift Left click sequence may be assigned to the right or middle but-
  168. ton, but in some applications it will not work.  For example, in Excel and 
  169. Notepad the Shift Left click assignment to the right or middle button will 
  170. produce the approperiate extended selection.  However, in the File Manager, 
  171. which uses Shift Left click for extended file selection, Whiskers will not 
  172. work.  This problem of Whiskers not working with some applications is 
  173. caused by the way those applications were written and there is no way for 
  174. Whiskers to get around this.

  176. EXCLUSION LIST:
  177.  
  178. Click once on the Whiskers icon at the bottom of your screen and the 
  179. system menu will pop up.  Select Exclude... and a dialog box will appear.  
  180. Follow the instruction in the dialog box for excluding certain programs 
  181. from Whiskers attention.
  182.  
  183. You can also turn Whiskers ON and OFF manually by double clicking on the
  184. Whiskers icon at the bottom of the screen.  Or Clicking once on the icon 
  185. at the bottom of the screen and then selecting Whiskers ON or OFF from 
  186. the system menu.

  189. TO EXCEL USERS:
  190.  
  191. A Rodent.exe has been marketed separately in the past as an Excel add in.
  192. If you have purchased the Rodent for Excel, just delete the Rodent.exe 
  193. file and any macros that you may be using.  Whiskers is a complete re-
  194. placement for the Rodent.
