  6. This Support Pack contains updates for Novell Client for Windows v4.91 only. 
  7.  
  8. The purpose of this Support Pack is to provide a bundle of
  9. fixes that have all been tested together. These files have
  10. undergone component testing, core OS testing, and
  11. integration testing with other Novell products.
  12.

  38.      1.1  Prerequisites
  39.  
  40.           1.1.1  NDPS
  41.  
  42.                  An update to NDPS is required to solve a
  43.                  client hang. Install the dprpcnlm.nlm
  44.                  file, dated 22Nov2000 or later. This
  45.                  update is included in NetWare 5.1 Support
  46.                  Pack 3 or later. For more information, see

  52.           1.1.2  Installing NetWare 4.11 or 4.2 Server
  53.                  Patch Prior to Installing the Client
  54.                  Solves File Open Issue
  55.  
  56.                  A server patch update addresses an issue
  57.                  in which a file that is opened once by
  58.                  different threads (one open in each
  59.                  thread) in an application and then closed,
  60.                  leaves an instance of the file open, even
  61.                  after you exit the application. This
  62.                  problem could cause the server to run out
  63.                  of memory or hang. The server update is
  64.                  located in TID 2952441

  68.                  You do not have to update the server
  69.                  product version to install and use the
  70.                  latest client software.
  71.

  73.      1.2  Install Option 1 - setupsp.exe
  74.  
  75.           To install the updates on a workstation with the
  76.           Novell Client for Windows v4.91
  77.           already installed, run the setupsp.exe located in
  78.           products\winnt\i386.
  79.  
  80.           Available options for configuring setupsp.exe are
  81.           described in 1.5 Setupsp.exe Functionality.
  82.  
  83.           Setupsp.exe can be launched automatically as part
  84.           of the NetWare login script. The following is an
  85.           example of the code you would add to the login
  86.           script:
  87.  
  88.           @\\%<aserver>\sys\public\client.sp3\products\winnt
  89.           \i386\setupsp.exe

  92.      1.3  Install Option 2 - ACU Install
  93.  
  94.           Automatic Client Upgrade (acu.exe) checks the
  95.           Novell Client major, minor, and Support Pack
  96.           versions previously installed on the workstation.
  97.           If the workstation requires only the Support Pack
  98.           updates, setupsp.exe will be launched instead of
  99.           the full Client Install to update the software on
  100.           the workstation.
  101.  
  102.           For example, when acu.exe runs on a workstation
  103.           with the Novell Client for Windows v4.91
  104.           installed, the setupsp.exe program is
  105.           executed. A workstation with an old client
  106.           version or no client installed will run the full
  107.           Novell Client install.
  108.  
  109.           Available options for configuring the acu.exe are
  110.           described in 1.6 Acu.exe Functionality.

  113.      1.4  Install Option 3 - Installing the Novell Client
  114.           with the Support Pack Integrated
  115.  
  116.           Update the Novell Client for Windows v4.91
  117.           source files located in the
  118.           sys:public\client\winnt\i386 by copying the
  119.           Support Pack files from products\winnt\i386 to
  120.           sys:public\client\winnt\i386\. This copy will
  121.           overwrite the corresponding files in the full
  122.           Novell Client source directory. 
  123.  
  124.           The Support Pack download file contains files in
  125.           all languages. To avoid issues, remove the
  126.           language directories that do not correspond to
  127.           directories in the full client 4.91 installation
  128.           already on the workstation. There are NLS-related
  129.           directories within the Support Pack extracted
  130.           directory structure: winnt\i386\nls\language,
  131.           winnt\i386\admin\nls\language,
  132.           winnt\i386\nal\nls\language, and
  133.           \winnt\i386\rm\nls\language. Delete the unneeded
  134.           language directories from both locations.
  135.  
  136.           Run the setupnw.exe program to install the
  137.           integrated Novell Client and Support Pack.
  138.  
  139.           In cases where both compressed and uncompressed
  140.           versions of a file end up in the same directory,
  141.           the installation will automatically install the
  142.           uncompressed file. It is not necessary to delete
  143.           the compressed files.

  146.      1.5  Setupsp.exe Functionality
  147.  
  148.           The setupsp.inf file contains a
  149.           [ServicePackOptions] section through which
  150.           additional setupsp.exe behavior can be
  151.           controlled. The default values for the option
  152.           section have changed and are as follows:
  153.  
  154.           [ServicePackOptions]
  155.           Reinstall = NO
  156.           DisplayInstallPrompts = YES
  157.           UpdateNICI = YES
  158.           UpdateNMAS = YES
  159.           UpdateNetIdentity = YES
  160.           RebootOnCompletion = PROMPT
  161.           PromptUserOnCompletion = YES

  164.           Reinstall
  165.  
  166.           Setting the value Reinstall = NO disables the
  167.           ability to reinstall the Support Pack, if the
  168.           current Support Pack has already been installed
  169.           on the workstation. For example, once the Support
  170.           Pack has been installed successfully, running
  171.           setupsp.exe will not install the Support Pack
  172.           again. When the value is set to YES it allows the
  173.           Support Pack installation to re-apply the updates
  174.           even though the current Support Pack may have
  175.           already been installed.

  178.           DisplayInstallPrompts
  179.  
  180.           Setting the value DisplayInstallPrompts = YES
  181.           displays all dialogs regarding the installation
  182.           of the Support Pack. When the value is set to NO,
  183.           no dialogs will be displayed during the Support
  184.           Pack installation.
  185.  
  186.           DisplayInstallPrompts has no affect on the
  187.           RebootOnCompletion or PromptUserOnCompletion
  188.           values.
  189.  
  190.  
  191.           productupdate
  192.  
  193.           The UpdateNICI, UpdateNMAS, UpdateNetIdentity
  194.           parameters indicate whether SETUPSP.EXE is to
  195.           install updates to the optional products included
  196.           with the Novell Client. The product will only be
  197.           updated if is has been detected on the
  198.           workstation prior to the Support Pack
  199.           installation.

  202.           RebootOnCompletion
  203.  
  204.           Setting the value RebootOnCompletion = PROMPT
  205.           prompts the user to decide whether the
  206.           workstation should be shut down and restarted
  207.           after the Support Pack installation completes.
  208.  
  209.           The PromptUserOnCompletion setting has no effect
  210.           when RebootOnCompletion is set to PROMPT.
  211.  
  212.           Setting the value RebootOnCompletion = YES
  213.           restarts the workstation after the Support Pack
  214.           installation completes without waiting for the
  215.           user to acknowledge any prompts.
  216.  
  217.           RebootOnCompletion = NO exits the Support Pack
  218.           installation without restarting the workstation.

  220.  
  221.           PromptUserOnCompletion
  222.  
  223.           The PromptUserOnCompletion setting controls
  224.           whether the user is advised that the Support 
  225.  
  226.           Pack install completed prior to exiting the
  227.           installation program. Setting the value
  228.           PromptUserOnCompletion = NO exits the Support
  229.           Pack installation without waiting for the user to
  230.           acknowledge any prompts.
  231.  
  232.           Setting PromptUserOnCompletion = YES displays an
  233.           informational prompt upon completion of the
  234.           installation process. The user must simply press
  235.           OK and does not have a choice to override or
  236.           force a reboot. This prompt only confirms that
  237.           installation completed prior to whichever
  238.           post-install action will take place (whether
  239.           setupsp.exe will just exit or will reboot the
  240.           workstation, depending on whether
  241.           RebootOnCompletion is set to YES or NO).

  244.      1.6  Acu.exe Functionality
  245.  
  246.           In addition to providing all the functionality
  247.           Automatic Client Upgrade (acu.exe) has previously
  248.           provided, it also provides administrators with an
  249.           additional method for executing setupsp.exe on
  250.           workstations that already have client software
  251.           installed. An administrator can choose to use
  252.           acu.exe to launch setupsp.exe to provide
  253.           additional prompting or logging during the client
  254.           update process.
  255.  
  256.           Normally the acu.exe application checks only the
  257.           workstation's major and minor client version (and
  258.           the administrator's major and minor internal
  259.           version, if defined) to determine whether acu.exe
  260.           should attempt to launch the full setupsp.inf
  261.           install.
  262.  
  263.           If the workstation major and minor client version
  264.           checks show that the workstation already has the
  265.           same major and minor client version that is
  266.           available for install, acu.exe will now also
  267.           check the workstation ServicePack value (as
  268.           setupsp.exe does) to determine whether the local
  269.           workstation has the Support Pack installed. If
  270.           the workstation is in need of only the Support
  271.           Pack updates, acu.exe then launches only
  272.           setupsp.exe instead the full client
  273.           upgrade/install process.
  274.  
  275.           The acu.ini file contains a [ServicePack] section
  276.           through which this new behavior can be further
  277.           controlled. The default values for the
  278.           [ServicePack] section are as follows:
  279.  
  280.           [ServicePack]
  281.           Check = Yes
  282.  
  283.           Setting the value Check = Yes causes acu.exe to
  284.           take the [ServicePack] into account, as described
  285.           previously.
  286.  
  287.           Setting the value Check = No causes acu.exe to
  288.           ignore the workstation [ServicePack] value and
  289.           will not run setupsp.exe instead of a full client
  290.           upgrade/install. This behavior can also be forced
  291.           by launching acu.exe with an /NSP command line
  292.           switch. For example:
