  33. area, this DAT file is being released earlier than
  34. scheduled to include the following viruses.

  76. When a macro virus is detected in conjunction with
  77. other viruses, the macro virus remover will not work.
  78. If you encounter this, remove the other virus first or
  79. work in a separate area.

  84. * INSTALLING THE PRODUCT *

  86. Data file updates are stored in a compressed format
  87. to reduce transmission time. To install your update,
  88. create a temporary directory and copy the downloaded
  89. file to the directory. Unzip the files, and copy them
  90. to the appropriate permanent directories, replacing
  91. your existing files.

  94. * TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION *

  96. The Eicar Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined
  97. effort by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to
  98. come up with one standard by which customers can
  99. verify their anti-virus installations. To test your
  100. installation, copy the following line into its own file
  101. and name it EICAR.COM.
  102.

  105. When done, you will have a 69 or 70 byte file.

  107. When VirusScan is applied to this file, Scan will report
  108. finding the EICAR-STANDARD-AV-TEST-FILE virus.

  110. It is important to know that THIS IS NOT A VIRUS.
  111. However, users often have the need to test that their
  112. installations function correctly. The anti-virus
  113. industry, through the European Institute for Computer
  114. Antivirus Research, has adopted this standard to
  115. facilitate this need.

  117. Please delete the file when installation testing is
  118. completed so unsuspecting users are not unnecessarily
  119. alarmed.
