  3. To upgrade HP JetDirect print servers over the IPX/SPX protocol in a Microsoft
  4. Windows environment:

  37. To upgrade HP JetDirect print servers over IP protocol in a Microsoft Windows
  38. environment: 
  39.  
  40. -You must have the set-community-name configured on each print server that is to
  41. be upgraded.  Check the TCP/IP section of each self test page.  If the
  42. set-community-name is "SPECIFIED" you can use IP to upgrade your JetDirect
  43. products.
  44. -386/20 MHz or better processor

  61. To upgrade HP JetDirect print servers over IP protocol from a HP-UX 9.x
  62. workstation:
  63.  
  64. -Ethernet or Token Ring network topology
  65. -Configure the set-community-name on the print server.  This can be done
  66. with HP JetAdmin for UNIX software.
  67. -Optional - JetAdmin for HP-UX 9.x.  For HP 9000 series 700 or 800, obtain the
  68. file HPNPFPKG.700.d0036. For HP 9000 series 300 and 400 systems obtain the file
  69. HPNPFPKG.300.d0036.
  70.  
  71. OBTAINING THE FILES REQUIRED FOR UPGRADING JETDIRECT FIRMWARE
  72.  
  73. To use the HP Download Manager in a Microsoft Windows environment, you need to
  74. obtain the following files:
  75.  
  76. -HPDL0205.EXE  (HP Download Manager)
  77. -Appropriate upgrade file (for instance, A0406EN.EXE for an HP J2552A card)
  78. -For IPX upgrades, HP JetAdmin for Novell software, NOVUT1.EXE and NOVUT2.EXE
  79. (if you don't have version A.01.11 or greater) or HP JetAdmin for Windows 95,
  80. JD95UP.EXE.
  81.  
  82. To use the Download Manager with HP-UX 9.x, you need to obtain the following
  83. files:
  84.  
  85. -hpdl0200.tar  (HP Download Manager)
  86. -Appropriate upgrade file (for instance, a0406en.tar for an HP J2552A card)
  87. -Optional - HP JetAdmin for HP-UX 9.x software, version D.00.36 or greater.  For
  88. HP 9000 series 700 or 800, obtain the file HPNPFPKG.700.d0036. For HP 9000
  89. series 300 and 400 systems obtain the file HPNPFPKG.300.d0036.

  113. INSTALLING THE HP DOWNLOAD MANAGER AND UPGRADE FILES
  114.  
  115. In a Microsoft Windows environment:
  116. 1.Obtain the necessary files and place them in a temporary directory on your PC.
  117. 2.For IPX upgrades only, extract HP JetAdmin for Novell NetWare by running the
  118.   self-extracting archive files NOVUT1.EXE AND NOVUT2.EXE in the temporary
  119.   directory (you only need to do this if you do not have a version of JetAdmin
  120.   A.01.11 or greater.)
  121. 3.Install HP JetAdmin.
  122. 4.Extract the HPDL0205.EXE file. The necessary files will be extracted to the
  123.   \HPDLINST directory.
  124. 5.Run \HPDLINST\SETUP.EXE from Windows. This will install the HP Download
  125.   Manager in the directory of your choice and create a Windows program group
  126.   for the HP Download Manager.
  127. 6.Extract the firmware file (for example, A0406EN.EXE file). The necessary files
  128.   will be extracted to the current directory.  You should extract these files in
  129.   a different directory then was created for the HPDL0205.EXE files since some
  130.   of the file names are the same.
  131. 7.Run the upgrade file, ..\SETUP.EXE, from Windows. This will install the
  132.   upgrade files in a subdirectory named ..\UPGRADES\JETDIREC beneath the
  133.   directory you specified when installing the HP Download Manager. This is why
  134.   the HP Download Manager needs to be installed first!
  135.  
  136. In a HP-UX 9.x environment:
  137. 1.Log in as ROOT.
  138. 2.Obtain the necessary files and place them in a temporary directory on your
  139.   UNIX workstation.
  140. 3.If using HP JetAdmin for HP-UX 9.x software, you also need to install these
  141.   files.
  142. 4.Type tar xvf hpdl0200.tar (this will create the file hpdwnld.updt.Z and
  143.   a readme.txt file)
  144. 5.Type tar xvf <image>.tar (this will create the file <image>.updt.Z and an
  145.   <image>.txt file)
  146. 6.Type uncompress hpdwnld.updt.Z to decompress the Download Manager files.
  147. 7.Type uncompress image.updt.Z (for example a0406en.updt.Z) to decompress the
  148.   image file.
  149. 8.Run /etc/update -s <full path to hpdwnld.updt file> "*"  (This will put the
  150.   Download Manager program files in /usr/lib/hpnp/bin/ directory).  The HP
  151.   Download Manager needs to be installed before the image is installed!
  152. 9.Run /etc/update -s <full path to image.updt file> "*"  (This will put the
  153.   image files in /usr/tftpdir/upgrades/jetdirec directory).
  154.  
  155. GETTING STARTED WITH THE HP DOWNLOAD MANAGER
  156.  
  157. Once you have installed the program files you are ready to use the HP Download
  158. Manager.
  159.  
  160. To invoke the HP Download Manager from JetAdmin for Novell in a Microsoft
  161. Windows* environment:
  162.  
  163. 1.Run HP JetAdmin. 
  164. 2.From the JetAdmin menu select File, then select JetDirect Firmware Upgrade...
  165. 3.Choose ..\HPDWNLD.EXE from the dialog box.  Click on the "OK" button.
  166.  
  167. To run the Download Manager directly from a Microsoft Windows* environment:
  168.  
  169. 1.Open the HP Download Manager Program Group.
  170. 2.Start the HP Download Manager Configurator Application.
  171. 3.Set the appropriate configurator parameters using the online help as needed.
  172. 4.Start the HP Download Manager Application and use the online help for
  173.   instructions on upgrading your print servers.
  174.  
  175. *If you are running Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups, or
  176.  Windows 95 over TCP/IP and a Novell file server is not present, refer to these
  177.  additional instructions before running the Download Manager:
  178.  
  179. Microsoft Windows NT
  180. 1.Look at the self test page under the Novell section to verify the JetDirect
  181.   print server does not have a network number for Novell.  If it does, then you
  182.   can disregard the rest of these instructions.
  183. 2.Go into the Control Panel.
  184. 3.Double click on the Network icon. To get the Auto Discovery mode of the
  185.  Download Manager to work we need to check that the following services are
  186.  loaded in NT:
  187.   -For the Server version of NT: Gateway Service for Netware
  188.   -For the Workstation version of NT:  Client Services for NetWare.
  189.   Load these services by doing the following:
  190.     -Click on Add Software.
  191.     -Choose the right choice for your setup (Server or Workstation).
  192.     -Click OK to add the service.
  193. 4.Select NW Link IPX/SPX Compatible Transport.  (This should be loaded by
  194.   default.)
  195. 5.Select Configure for NW Link IPX/SPX compatible transport.
  196. 6.Select any frame type except "Auto Detected".
  197. 7.Click Advanced... button
  198. 8.Enter an the internal network "55555555".
  199. 9.Click OK, then restart the machine to save the changes.
  200. 10.After restarting, a screen will come up asking you to choose a Novell server.
  201.   Click Cancel.  On the next box that comes up click "yes".
  202. 11.Run the HP Download Manager.
  203. 12.Choose Auto Discovery.
  204. 13.Click on Add Network button.
  205. 14.Add a new network of "00000000".
  206. 15.When Auto Discovery is finished, click OK.  When prompted, save the file.
  207. 16.Select "Use Autodiscovery File".  Select the file you just created.
  208. 17.Go to the current Subnet and choose the subnet of "55555555".  The JetDirect
  209.   products should appear in the window.
  210.  
  211. Microsoft Windows for Workgroups
  212. 1.Look at the self test page under the Novell section to verify the JetDirect
  213.   print server does not have a network number for Novell.  If it does, then you
  214.   can disregard the rest of these instructions.
  215. 2.Select the Network group.
  216. 3.Double click the Network Setup icon.
  217. 4.Click on the Drivers... button.
  218. 5.Select IPX/SPX Compatible Transport.  If it is not installed, Click the
  219.   Add Protocol... button.
  220. 6.Click on the Setup... button.
  221. 7.Select any frame type except "Not present".
  222. 8.Save the changes on each screen and exit Network.  At the prompt, restart
  223.   the machine.
  224. 9.Run the HP Download Manager*.
  225. 10.Click on Specific Device button.
  226. 11.Enter 00000000:080009xxxxxx.  xxxxxx is the last 6 digits of the JetDirect
  227.   hardware address.  This can be found on the self test page. Click Add button.
  228.   Repeat this step for each JetDirect that needs to be upgraded.
  229. 12.Refer to the Download Manager Help screen for additional instructions.
  230.  
  231. NOTE:  Since AutoDiscovery does not work in this environment, you can simulate
  232. the AutoDiscovery process by creating an ASCII file that contains each JetDirect
  233. hardware address that you need to upgrade. Each line in the file must have the
  234. following format "0:080009xxxxxx".  Launch the HP Download Manager by running
  235. "hpdwnld <ASCII filename>". Also, the ASCII file must be stored in the same
  236. directory as the hpdwnld.exe file.
  237.  
  238. Microsoft Windows 95
  239. 1.Look at the self test page under the Novell section to verify the JetDirect
  240.   print server does not have a network number for Novell.  If it does, then you
  241.   can disregard the rest of these instructions.
  242. 2.Go into the Control Panel.
  243. 3.Select the Network group.
  244. 4.Double click on the Network icon.  Make sure Client Services for NetWare
  245.   is loaded.
  246. 5.Select IPX/SPX compatible protocol.
  247. 6.Click on Properties... button.
  248. 7.Click on the Advanced tab.
  249. 8.Select Frame Type from the Property box.  Select any frame type except "Auto".
  250. 9.Save the changes on each screen and exit Network.  At the prompt, restart
  251.   the machine.
  252. 10.Run the HP Download Manager*.
  253. 11.Click on Specific Device button.
  254. 12.Enter 00000000:080009xxxxxx.  xxxxxx is the last 6 digits of the JetDirect
  255.   hardware address.  This can be found on the self test page. Click Add button.
  256.   Repeat this step for each JetDirect that needs to be upgraded.
  257. 13.Refer to the Download Manager Help screen for additional instructions.

  270. 3.To run the Download Manager, choose option 4 from the main menu of JetAdmin.
  271. 4.Then choose option 3 to run the Download Manager Configurator or option 4 to
  272.   run the Download Manager.

  274. To run the Download Manager directly from a HP-UX 9.x workstation:
  275.  
  276. 1.Change to /usr/lib/hpnp/bin directory.
  277. 2.Type dwnldcfg to start the HP Download Manager Configurator Application.
  278. 3.Set the appropriate configuration parameters using the online help as needed.
  279. 4.Type hpdwnld to start the Download Manager.
  280. 5.Use the online help for instructions on upgrading your print servers.

  282. TROUBLESHOOTING
  283.  
  284. -Did you use a binary transfer (if your download software requires it)
  285.  when you downloaded the software?
  286. -Does your environment meet the requirements specified in the beginning
  287.  of this document?
  288. -Are you trying to do anything other than upgrade a JetDirect print server
  289.  that is listed in the table in the beginning of the document?
  290.
