  18.   Before attempting to install the Ether16 LAN Card's network software
  19.   drivers, you should configure the card's internal settings with the
  20.   SETUP utility included on the Ether16 disk.  To configure the card:
  21.  
  22.         1. Get to the DOS command prompt (C:\>).  
  23.         
  24.            It is important that you have a "clean bootup" with no
  25.            network drivers loaded.  If possible, bypass all of your
  26.            system's startup files and get to a DOS prompt.
  27.  
  28.            If you are using Windows, close it down completely (select 
  29.            File, then Exit from the Program Manager menu).  Do NOT
  30.            run the Setup program from within a DOS window.
  31.            
  32.            If you are using Windows 95, restart your PC.  Hit the F8 key 
  33.            when "Starting Windows 95..." appears on your screen.  Select 
  34.            "Command Prompt Only" from the menu that appears.  When your 
  35.            system continues booting again, press the F5 key to bypass all of 
  36.            your startup files.

  38.         2. Insert the Ether16 disk into drive A: or B:.  Then, from the
  39.            DOS prompt, type A:SETUP or B:SETUP and press the Enter key.

  41.         3. Select "Configure the Ether16 LAN Card Hardware" option from
  42.            the menu.  Configure the card's I/O, IRQ, and connector type
  43.            settings (you can use the auto configure function if you want).

  45.            When you're finished, restart your computer and follow the
  46.            network software driver setup instructions shown below.

  48.            Important Note:  When you configure the card's hardware, write
  49.            down the IRQ and I/O memory address that you use.  You'll need
  50.            to make sure that your network software is configured so that
  51.            it uses these same values before your workstation will be able
  52.            to communicate with the network.

  54.         4. After the card has been set up, your PC will restart itself.
  55.            Connect your network cabling to the card and then run the
  56.            Setup program again.  Run the Setup program's basic diagnostics
  57.            on the card to make sure that the hardware has been installed
  58.            correctly.

  61.   NOVELL NE2000 COMPATIBILITY
  62.   --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  63.   The Ether16 LAN Card is 100% Novell NE2000 compatible.  If your network
  64.   software has a "generic" NE2000 adapter driver, run your network setup
  65.   software, select NOVELL NE2000 or a compatible driver from the list of
  66.   possible adapters and you're done--you won't need to follow the
  67.   instructions below.

  69.   To install the Ether16 LAN Card's own drivers (included on the Ether16
  70.   disk) -- which may provide better performance in some environments --
  71.   follow the instructions for your network software package below.

  74.   Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 Setup

  76.   (1)  In the "Main" sub-window, Select <Control Panel> ---> <Network> --->
  77.        <Add Adapter>

  79.   (2)  Windows NT will present a list of all available drivers.
  80.        Select "Others" for 3rd party adapters not in the driver list.

  82.   (3)  Windows NT will ask for the drive/path containing the Ether16 Windows
  83.        NT drivers.  Insert the driver diskette in drive A, and then
  84.        type:

  86.         A:\NT35  <then Press Enter>
  87.  
  88.   (4)  Windows NT will attempt to locate an OEMSETUP.INF file in the 
  89.        specified path. If you have entered the pathname correctly, Windows 
  90.        NT should copy the appropriate drivers to the Windows NT system.

  92.   (5)  At this point, the drivers would have been properly copied and the
  93.        installation would proceed to the next step.  Please refer to your
  94.        Windows NT installation guide for the correct procedure.

  96.   (6)  After the initial installation, the Ether16 drivers will be 
  97.        permanently copied to the Windows NT system.  Subsequent network 
  98.        driver lists will contain the "Ether16 LAN Card" entry in the
  99.        list of installable drivers.

  139.    To access the Linksys Bulletin Board System (BBS), set your modem to
  140.    8 bits, No parity, 1 stop bit, and call (714) 261-2888.  Use a speed 
  141.    setting of 33.6bps or slower.  When downloading files, use the "Z-modem" 
  142.    download protocol for best results.
