  3.      Installing a NIC for NetWare in Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  4.

  7. IMPORTANT:  You must have software from Novell or a version of
  8. Windows for Workgroups with NetWare support in order to install NetWare 
  9. support for Windows for Workgroups.
  10.  
  11. For full NetWare support with Windows for Workgroups, use the NetWare 
  12. installation diskettes provided by Novell.  The installation program 
  13. will prompt you for the necessary files from the 3Com EtherCD or
  14. EtherDisk installation diskettes.
  15.  
  16. To install an EtherLink NIC in a NetWare client running Windows for 
  17. Workgroups 3.11 WITHOUT the Novell installation diskettes:
  18.  
  19. 1.  Make sure that the NIC has been configured properly in the PC by 
  20.     running the DOS Diagnostic and reviewing the configuration details.
  21.  
  22. 2.  Use the 3Com intelligent auto install (COMSLINK) program to install 
  23.     the NetWare ODI client software in DOS.  For instructions, refer to 
  24.     the user guide or run the HELP.EXE file on the EtherCD (or EtherDisk 
  25.     diskette 2).
  26.  
  27. 3.  In Windows for Workgroups, locate the Network section (the Network icon).
  28.     Open the Network group and double-click Network Setup.
  29.  
  30. 4.  Click on Networks in the Network Setup window.
  31.   
  32.     To install the Microsoft Network with NetWare: 
  33.     a.  Choose Install Microsoft Windows Network. 
  34.     b.  Select Other.
  35.     c.  Choose either Novell NetWare[Workstation Shell 3.X] or 
  36.         Novell NetWare[Workstation Shell 4.0 and above] from the 
  37.         pull-down menu.  Shell 3.X is used for NETX.EXE and Shell 4.0
  38.         is for the VLM requester.
  39.     d.  Click OK when you are finished.
  40.     e.  Continue at step 5.
  41.     
  42.     To install Novell NetWare only:
  43.     a.  Choose Install Windows Support for the following network only:
  44.     b.  Choose either Novell NetWare[Workstation Shell 3.X] or 
  45.         Novell NetWare[Workstation Shell 4.0 and above] from the 
  46.         pull-down menu.  Shell 3.X is used for NETX.EXE and Shell 4.0
  47.         is for the VLM requester.
  48.     c.  Continue at step 14.
  49.     
  50. 5.  To install the network NIC, click Drivers.
  51.  
  52. 6.  In the Network Drivers window, click Add adapter.
  53.  
  54. 7.  From the list of network NICs, select Unlisted or Updated Network
  55.     Adapter, and then click OK.
  56.  
  57. 8.  Network setup now requires the vendor-provided network driver diskette.
  58.     Insert the EtherCD (or EtherDisk diskette 1) in drive A: and type the 
  59.     following path for the location of the NDIS driver.
  60.  
  61.     From CD (assuming E is the drive letter of the CD ROM drive):
  62.  
  63.     E:\WFW311
  64.  
  65.     From diskette:
  66.     
  67.     A:\WFW311
  68.     
  69.     Click OK.
  70.  
  71. 9.  From the Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter screen, select the 3Com 
  72.     EtherLink NIC, and then click OK.
  73.     
  74.     The Network Setup screen now lists the adapter, along with the 
  75.     default protocol stacks:
  76.     
  77.        3Com EtherLink NIC (NDIS2/NDIS3)
  78.        IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS
  79.        Microsoft NetBEUI
  80.        
  81. 10. Click Setup in the Network Drivers window.  
  82.  
  83. 11. Click the down arrow under Driver Type and select the ODI driver, and  
  84.     then click OK.
  85.  
  86. 12. Click Close in the Network Drivers window to accept these settings.
  87.     
  88. 13. Click OK in the Network Setup window to start the installation.
  89.  
  90. 14. Windows for Workgroups may give you a chance to add or change your
  91.     user name, workgroup, and computer name.  If your network
  92.     administrator supplies you this information, use it. If not, you can
  93.     create this information yourself.  When you have finished, click OK.
  94.  
  95.     NOTE: It may be necessary to use your Novell or Windows for Workgroups
  96.           network support diskettes during the installation.  Later versions
  97.           of NetWare include a file that Windows for Workgroups will not
  98.           copy for you.  If you get an error stating that NWGDI.DLL is
  99.           missing, you must copy the file manually into the SYSTEM 
  100.           subdirectory of your WINDOWS directory.
  101.  
  102. 15. The Windows Setup program may ask if you want to replace the Enhanced 
  103.     Mode Protocol Manager or your Novell NetWare files with the version 
  104.     you are installing now. Click Yes to All.
  105.  
  106. 16. If the Windows Setup program asks for the NDIS.386 file,  insert
  107.     Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Disk 7 and click OK.
  108.  
  109. 17. If prompted for the EL90X.386 driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk 
  110.     diskette 2 in the A:\ drive. Type the following path to load the 
  111.     NDIS 3 driver:
  112.  
  113.     A:\WFW311
  114.     
  115.     Click OK.
  116.  
  117. 18. If prompted for the EL90X.DOS driver, insert the 3Com EtherCD in the
  118.     CD ROM drive (or EtherDisk diskette 2 in the floppy drive). Type the 
  119.     following path to load the NDIS 2 driver.
  120.  
  121.     Installing from CD ROM (assuming the CD ROM is assigned drive letter E):
  122.  
  123.     E:\NDIS2\DOS
  124.  
  125.     Installing from diskette:
  126.  
  127.     A:\NDIS2\DOS
  128.     
  129.     Click OK.
  130.  
  131. 19. The PROTOCOL.INI and SYSTEM.INI files have now been modified. Windows
  132.     for Workgroups saves the old versions with the extension .001, where 
  133.     the number is incremented every time a new version of the file is
  134.     generated. Click OK.
  135.  
  136. 20. When prompted, restart the computer.
